jeez, didn't realise the expansion pass would cost as much as the full game
Still rather wait for Star Citizen to come out.

Star Citizen and Elite Dangerous are in no way comparable and are both focusing on completely different aspects.

Nuh uh they have space in it, therefore same game.
Stupid.

I don't know about about Elite, I just know it was $150 for Beta access. which is ridiculous.
I don't know about about Elite, I just know it was $150 for Beta access. which is ridiculous.
And you can't even play Star Citizen in any form yet people have paid thousands of dollars toward it.
What sounds more ridiculous?

I payed $40 and I can play it, right now. Dogfighting is out, and that is going to be most of the game for me anyways, as I am going to be a pirate.
Do you guys think this game will have enough content to justify the $50 purchase? I don't care if I end up paying $50 more across the span of five years but if there's going to be $500 in expansions that I can get for fifty, I'd like to do it.

beta access isn't for everyone. If you don't want to pay for it, don't

You are so uninformed it hurts.

Well this was informative.
Holy shit so much so much DLC planned and the game's not even out of beta.
Star Citizen and Elite Dangerous are in no way comparable and are both focusing on completely different aspects.
Can someone tl;dr their different focuses to me because to me they seem like 2 sides of the same coin.
why the fuck are they charging for dlc when it's not even close to release? Including features that have been in nearly every elite game? I was under the impression that they got a shitload of money from pre-orders and the kickstarter.
Can someone tl;dr their different focuses to me because to me they seem like 2 sides of the same coin.
one's p2w and is never going to be finished, the other costs nine million us dollars and you can only buy DLC with organs
star citizen also has the dubious honour of being the most visually dull game on cryengine 3
Can someone tl;dr their different focuses to me because to me they seem like 2 sides of the same coin.
Star Citizen probably will be more like it's predecessors like Freelancer and Wing Commander. More focus on exploring, trading, and PvP instances instead. It's also trying to go for Sci-Fi 'realism'
Elite Dangerous is more of an action oriented, I would say. I haven't really looked into it nearly as much as SC. But it seems like it's more focus on the action and fights in space combat. Different styles in game play. Also I believe the 'maps' are gonna be larger in ED, but your ship flies at a faster speed. While SC is probably gonna do what Freelancer did and have sections that connect via warp gates or something.
Both games are heading in different directions, but in the end will be different most likely in game play and general focus.
I don't understand how anyone can give Elite: Dangerous shit for $150 buying you everything, when Star Citizen is selling 5 capital ships for Ten Thousand US Dollars despite the millions it made in kickstarter and pre-orders.

they sold ships for more :3
i can't fathom who would even ever pay that much for a game

None of those are capital ships, they're all pretty standard ships. Most of those huge packages are more just a donation than anything.
I think the difference is that's all optional and still in the game for you to get, whereas the barrier for entry in ED is much higher. At least $75 for beta and the game is more reasonable though now.

eh
if anything Elite: Dangerous is more like Freelancer 2.0
unlike SC they've actually nailed down combat and trading now, and the trading aspect is basically this:
dock at Station A and buy all the things -> fly towards destination -> get scanned by police patrol/attacked by pirates -> continue flying -> dock at Station B and sell all the things
sound familiar

Star Citizen isn't p2w. Its only to get access to the ships right away, with insurance on the ship, so you don't need to use ingame money. There is going to be better ships in game.

SC hasn't done anything publicly with trading yet, its probably going to basically be the same. Combat on the other hand is most likely going to improve in Star Citizen, right now its good, but it can be better.
And Elite Dangerous sounds a lot like Freelancer, which in turn, sounds like a lot of Star Citizen. I have no idea what people are talking about going they are completely different games.
Elite sounds alot more like Elite seeing as they invented the genre!
I don't understand how anyone can give Elite: Dangerous shit for $150 buying you everything, when Star Citizen is selling 5 capital ships for Ten Thousand US Dollars despite the millions it made in kickstarter and pre-orders.
That's a terrible comparison. The cheapest package anyone could have gotten for SC was like $30 and included beta and modules.
People who paid for anything more either wanted to pledge more, or simply wanted a bigger ship/gear/bragging rights.
$150 for SC would have gotten a relatively nice ship and package or ED beta and stuff.
How is it a terrible comparison when there is content that's clearly defined as part of the base game you are locked out of at the lowest tier for star citizen, compared to pay once get the whole base game for elite?
Also Star Citizen already has a microtransaction store up and running despite the game only having a hangar and a sandbox dogfight mode, so where are their priorities?

So, in other words you haven't bothered to do any research on SC?
You say you're locked out of base game stuff. The lowest tier pledge simply gets a simple starter ship. Those that paid more get another starter ship. If you want another ship you play the game and upgrade in game like any other game.
And the shit in the voyager store is basic items and gear that can be found at any station in the game and is there for people who lost their ship in battle and may want to hasten their start over.
oh great so you purchase the game now but don't get to actually access that content you bought until weeks, months, maybe a year down the line unless you drop more money
and if something happens you lose even more time and/or money from starting over
I like my games to be games not jobs thanks
What are you talking about now? You're just rambling now.
People preorder games all the time that can take up to years before release. Sometimes they get demos /betas to play. Duke Nukem Forever with their long wait and demo, also Destiny just ended their beta.
And again, you could have paid for the cheapest package at $30(now $40, I believe) and get full access to the modules and betas. Just like ED, wow.
It's like you have a vendetta against the game because just because you can. Learn how to do research and backup your arguments before bothering to make another post.
[editline]30th July 2014[/editline]
Again, the voyager direct is a way to hasten your return to flying your own ship. If not you find jobs with other players or NPC to make money to get shit back in game.
The game focuses on being a simulator in space and that's why it should be closer to being like a job than just handing over battleships to anyone.
