I couldn't keep reading after "instead fo being upset...read our list of shooters." Fo, not of.
At this point I just want a hint of a reason as to why half life completely died. I don't understand it. It's been so long I don't think I'd care if hl3 did come out.

It never died. Various hints on images show that it's not dead. And you will care when it gets announced.

I think this has been discussed back and forth countless times, but it's believed that it's due to a combination of...
A. Soaring expectations of the next HL game that will be hard to live up to
B. A lack of any major breakthrough in game design or engine technology that helped drive HL and HL2 to such massive heights
C. Valve only makes the games that the devs themselves want to make. Nobody comes down to them and says "We need to make more money, make this game"
A combination of A and B means there's little will to work on the game, seeing as how a sub-par HL game would really be a final deathblow to the series. At least for now Half-Life has the benefit of our doubt and fond memories.

Please provide links (no sarcasm)
Its slowly crawling to the surface, but probably will only go into high gear if they find something to make it THE game to buy.
The great thing about Half Life for me was all the mods that it gave us, as long as they release it on Source 2 with tons of assets and a nice editor the community will give us gold.
It's interesting how I get Dishonored vibes from some of these shots.
It's strange Valve took issue with the idea of a Half-Life game without Freeman considering Opposing Force and Blue Shift were pretty good, on the whole.

well, dishonored was developed by arkane and arkane was making episode 4. so it's not impossible to see some similarities.

not to mention the lead art designer of Dishonored was also the lead art designer for Half-Life 2
Sooo... guys a Half Life Complete Collection on Source 2 with Upgraded Models?

I silently want to believe it could've gone the way of Halo and just expanded on the story more, even if it's a weird offshoot timeline
New content is always nice

Ftfy
Though to be honest I can't say much of anything on the future of the current gen engines like U4. They seem so...mediocre now.

VR?
VR is too shitty in it's current implementation to be remotely ground breaking enough for Valve's taste.
VR?
VR is probably gonna be good, but in my opinon it doesn't compare to the advancement in shooter-game design that Half-Life represented or the technical marvel that HL2 brought to the table. VR is an ancillary experience-enhancement than a technological revolution that changes how games are made, and considering Vive's expected $500+ price tag that's probably how it will remain for a while.
On the other hand, if there's any company that COULD design a game so good that owning a VR kit would become more of a standard rather than the exception, it'd be Valve.
VR?
how would you play an fps with vr?
how would you play an fps with vr?
Presumably by retaining the same basic controls and input methods (mouseaim+WASD), but permitting the player to use head movements to look around independently of the direction of aim. But yeah, not exactly revolutionary stuff.
There's also that malarkey about moving around in your room completely freely and using your hands to interact with objects in 3D space, but very few have an entire empty room to set aside for such activities and most gamers probably prefer to remain at their desk rather than jumping around during their gaming sessions. So yeah, probably no revolution there either.

you really dont need a whole lot of space to play room scale games
also VR FPS is totally possible

Its funny you saying this at a time when Fallout 4 was just released.
If you played Fallout 1/2 as a kid you knew the nightmarish issues with Interplay and the various lawsuits that flew back and forth 'forever' locking down the license for the game.
For a long time I honestly believed that another Fallout game would never come out.
Valve has its shit together and you give them shit for taking time /:
