Ok so I will soon be building my first gaming computer, most likely after christmas.
I am on an absolute maximum budget of around £500-600
The current components I have chosen are:
This roughly totals to around £460-500
I was wondering whether there were any decent cheap places to get pc components like newegg but for the UK
I am a novice when it comes to this sort of thing so please feel free to point out any improvements I could make with my choices, the gpu is my main concern as I am unsure which one would be best but the 460 seems nice...
What brand/model is the hard drive, exactly? Same for the GTX 460. Links to the products you are picking would be brilliant. Also, you should get a SATA optical drive, not an IDE one. IDE cables block a lot of airflow and really don't cost less than SATA ones.

And need to know the brand/model of the PSU.
The psu would be an evo labs ATX
I think OEM is the brand for the hard drive, i'm not entirely sure.
I'm mainly just getting a general idea of what the price would be roughly and what components would be best, if you can suggest one it would be great
I will get some links to the stuff I have on my list in a few minutes
I've never heard of Evo Labs, probably poor quality. XFX is often recommended here: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817207003
OEM means 'Original Equipment Manufacturer' it is not a brand name. Samsung Spinpoint F3s are probably the best drives on the market for value: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822152185
I know these are at Newegg, which is American, but I can't remember any British computer parts supply sites.
Alright thanks, i'll see if I can do a bit of price searching for those two
Does everything else look alright?
Okay, the case looks pretty ricer and has poor cooling, you should get twice the RAM, the 460 is fairly expensive, but acceptable, that PSU is definitely crap, motherboard looks okay, but a full ATX one would probably be better. Processor is good. Also, I just remembered a good UK supply site: www.scan.co.uk
But don't go on my advice only, wait for someone with a bit more knowledge than me to post.
yeah, I would never buy computer parts off ebay.
also only make a thread if you're planning on purchasing within a couple of days
Your choice of parts are decent, however i'd recommend getting stuff from somewhere else than ebay.

decent? if you call a cit case, unbranded HDD and a no-name £20 "750W" PSU decent then you have some real problems with your standards

I am only referring to the specs, if it turns out it is a corsair PSU/XFX PSU or whatever it would be a good choice, if it is a no-name i wouldn't recommend it.
it's £20 and only gives 500W on 12V while claiming to be 750W
it's clearly utter shit

You are correct, i looked at the HDD and didn't see a brand, i assumed it was the same with the PSU, i didn't actually look at it, my bad.
So I have heard that the Ati hd 5850 outperforms the 460 when overclocked by quite a bit, and I recently got some news from a retailer that the price is reduced to £128.
Is it any better or worth it?
overclocking one card but not the other is not a fair comparison, the 5850 is better but not by a huge amount
and if you get one for that much I would love to know what van he nicked it from
if you're talking about overclocking I heard the cyclone GTX 460 can be overclocked a fair bit too

and this is with fan speed on auto
Looks pretty nice, I am considering gritting my teeth and shelling out the extra cash for two 460's in sli...
