that eye on the girl with the black hair hahahahahaha
that eye on the girl with the black hair hahahahahaha
the eyes on both girls are literally the exact same, they just changed the color and the "eyebrows" above them
the eyes on both girls are literally the exact same, they just changed the color and the "eyebrows" above them
Everyone has the exact same face. Plot twist, everyone is a clone of a single, last man on Earth that, with his last rebellious action, created an entire school of himself to fight against the aliens, dressing some of them up as schoolgirls as not to arouse suspicion of the aliens. Academy Award please.
Jesus, what's with the flood of anime-styled games on Steam lately? Go Go Nippon, this thing, that weird manga maker tool, etc. I can see the artistic merit in Japanese animation and such, but this constant stream of anime shit is kind of annoying, especially considering how low-quality these anime "games" keep turning out to be. Also, of course it's hilariously dumb-looking. Their eyes are so massive and spaced apart that they could easily hunt in the deepest depths of the Mariana Trench, and the brown-haired girl's making an expression from which the only possible sound emitted is "hurrrr".

Nobody really wants them outside of a niche market, but people translate them and want to release them to a wider audience which Steam is a great way to do so. Really, it promotes Japanese games actually being on PC in a largely Console dominated market.

They ain't exactly renowned for their artistic talent, save for a couple exceptions. Hopefully it will catch the attention of the biggest indie circles, paving the way for more serious companies.

Also, just to clarify my opinion regardless of what's being said here, I don't blindly hate Japanese art/anime/manga/etc. What I do hate, however, are poorly-made games that cost actual money, are made with the art direction of a preschool class*, and have a needless obsession with Japanese culture/art style. *Go Go Nippon and its maximum of 10 endlessly and nonsensically recycled backgrounds, which are mostly made from putting filters over photos, comes to mind. Abysmal. [editline]ECH[/editline]
Well, this is an indie game. They ain't exactly renowned for their artistic talent, save for a couple exceptions. Pretty much the whole series by the people who made Recettear is good, quite a few decent Visual Novels, and then there are slew of good games that got Greenlit like When They Cry (unless the HD patch doesn't work in which case god save us all)

I don't know why, but for some reason as soon as I saw this thread's title I knew the game was gonna be anime styled.
The kawaii-ification of Steam is underway, Gabe Newell will bow down to the might of moe~. Sometimes you need games of questionable quality to create a market for the really good games to shine. Like if Steins;Gate ever gets released on Steam.
I don't know why, but for some reason as soon as I saw this thread's title I knew the game was gonna be anime styled.
If it has Girls in the title, you can probably bet on that. Unless it's Girl Fight, but that's about 10x worse.
The funny thing is Go Go Nippon was made by a legit VN developer, I guess they needed a quick buck :v:
Hahaha, really now? If so, they did not do a good job by any stretch of the imagination. Any game that has you walk into a shop, describe all sorts of fascinating sights, and somehow have a picture of the fuckin' sky with a Photoshop filter over the top during the entire thing has some serious issues.
*Go Go Nippon and its maximum of 10 endlessly and nonsensically recycled backgrounds, which are mostly made from putting filters over photos, comes to mind. Abysmal.
That's kinda common with low-budget visual novels. Works like Tsukihime and Higurashi, who got updated re-releases, replace them with better sprites and original backgrounds.
Pretty much the whole series by the people who made Recettear is good,
Chantelise is fucking garbo
Chantelise is fucking garbo

Pretty much
The other two are really fantastic.
The other two are really fantastic.
When 1/3 of what you're talking about is Chantelise bad, that's something which needs to be addressed more than the words "pretty much"
When 1/3 of what you're talking about is Chantelise bad, that's something which needs to be addressed more than the words "pretty much"
Considering the package for all 3 games is $50, of which Chantelise is $10, you're basically talking about 80% their games are really good. Pretty much is a perfectly apt statement.
That's kinda common with low-budget visual novels. Works like Tsukihime and Higurashi, who got updated re-releases, replace them with better sprites and original backgrounds.
I could deal with the limited backgrounds if they weren't hilariously incorrect to the location in question and re-used so much that it's pathetic. Reusing a background of a house when you keep visiting that house, or reusing art of a street you visit often in the game is perfectly understandable. Using art that has no relation to what's occurring and reusing said art many times in different places is not cool. From what I saw in a playthrough of GGN, a supposedly-bustling train station had art of a completely empty station instead, a card reader was actually a photo with PS smudge tool used on it, the sky was used as a background in indoor shops at least three friggin' times, and the most common reason the female characters got new art of them displayed was because of extremely-short and censored naked scenes.
I always wanted more japanese games on Steam but this isn't what I signed up for. It's like getting a wish from a monkey paw.
You wanted Japanese games on steam and here they are. Not every Japanese game is Dark souls or metal gear.

Don't worry guys, after a while we'll get more good VN's on Steam. Right? R...right?
