My Acer laptop (5920G) is buggered. Upgraded from vista to 7 successfully, then refused to boot. I can reinstall Windows 7, but I need to recover some MISSION CRITICAL RESOURCES from the hard drive first. I tried running damn small linux from a usb stick, but it was cripplingly slow and wouldn't let me access any files on the HDD. What do I do? Sorry, should have mentioned that the DVD drive is incredibly dodgy and it wouldn't read my Ubuntu disk properly.
try the cd drive maybe? or do you only have one...
Here's a guide on how to mount an NTFS volume in Linux: http://www.linux-faqs.com/faq/misc/ntfs.php#4.5 Can you not fit Ubuntu on your Pendrive ? If not, I'm sure DLS can mount NTFS volumes.
You could put the HDD in another computer as a slave drive, and then access the files using that computer.
