Come on Dayz, you can release in the next 20 years
I had a very good time with The Forest, glad I bought it. I used it as a game to chill out to with casual survival and building (it's weird calling it casual/chill out when you have cannibals trying to kill you). Running through The Forest (heh) felt really cool and picking out a spot to build a camp or outpost feels nice.
Also the caves when you play on your own are fucking creepy.
Awesome, I'm happy I waited till now to actually give The Forest a real go.

Idk, while The Forest has come a long way I'd give that title to 7 Days to Die, just check out some of the early screenshots and compare them to recent shots to get an idea of how vast the changes have been. They've also been really true to their development goals.
Nice! Been wanting this for ages but held off till it was out of EA, been snubbed too many times in the past so won't buy any EA game again.
Definitely a good game with friends although the difficulty seems to go down exponentially the more people you have. Story is serviceable.
Only complaint is that once you know where everything roughly is you can finish the game in like less than half an hour.

I've found that as time goes on in the game, and the more you destroy of the forest, the more aggressive the cannibals and mutants get. Last week me and two friends played a solid 6 hour session where we gradually got harder and harder enemies.
At one point I encountered a bug that gave me infinite stamina - so I just started going H.A.M. on the trees while my friends gathered the logs and super-expanded our camp.
Half an hour later, four fuckin sex-legged freaks and a whole gaggle of tall gray dudes come running out of the forest, tearing down EVERYTHING and killing EVERYONE.
And that was it. GG. :v:

Yeah but The Forest only has like 3-4 guys working on it and they have had a countdown in their game for every update release. And they always updated it. They never didn't bring an update. Slowly and steady they added things and took feedback from communities. They never went radio silent for any period of time.
That's how it's done.
All these games finally releasing has reminded me of project zomboid, what in the fucking world happened to that?

it's still going
Guess 2018 is the year of leaving early access, seems like all games that have been released in 2013/4 in EA are finally leaving it. Which is mostly a good thing.
Guess ill give this game a try once it comes out from ea.
It's important to note though that there's no real rules on what leaving early access has to mean, at least a few games have just said "yep we're leaving EA" and still felt fairly unfinished.

I mean Valve doesn't employ any rules, but really leaving early access should mean what common sense tells you it means; you're no longer accessing an early copy AKA you have the release version. If developers choose to ignore that then it will have a negative impact. That being said, even non-indie games can have unfinished-feeling 1.0 versions.

Agreed, they were always consistent with updates, even if it didn't introduce a lot of new features they come with dozens of fixes regularly.
My only gripe with it is the build system is a little bit limited with not a whole lot to choose, but there's plenty of new structures coming for 1.0 so I'll be ready to jump in and see what changed.
If you're looking for some laid back multiplayer build/survival game, The Forest is a diamond in the rough.
It can be a bit daunting and boring alone as you can only do some much per day, but it's a blast if you play with friends.

7DTD gameplay-wise has been surely evolving but comparing old screenshots to new doesn't really matter when the game visually is still very janky.

Facepunch disagrees with that criteria, and I don't mean the forum. The qualifier for Rust leaving EA in a few days and raising the price is "we've come a long way from what we started with" rather than "the base game is finally feature-complete and we'll continue to update it as time goes on"
And obviously it's anecdotal but I've seen people defending that outlook.
