ok so I'm building a new pc and I'm trying to find a watercooling setup that would work with my GPU and CPU GPU Crossfire x2 CPU Case Mobo PSU Ram x2 HDD don't really have a budget but would like it to be as low priced as possible and in USD. if you can help me it would be appreciated. also it can be a kit or just a bunch of parts it doesn't really matter.
I'd set back and review a bunch of stuff before heading to water cooling, hit up reviews on parts and plan it out in your case. It isn't easy first time if you don't know jackshit. read tutorials and pro tips before buying
Your CPU Socket is AM3, and your GPU is HD 4870. Those are the two most important things for you to remember. As for advising you on a watercooling setup, I would need more information, like what kind of case do you have? Also keep in mind, if overclocking your CPU, YOU MUST COOL THE NORTHBRIDGE! Websites you can do research on: www.crazypc.com www.thermaltake.com www.koolance.com Also before ordering anything PAY CLOSE ATTENTION TO BARB DIAMETER. If you are looking to get in TEC and liquid cooling hybrids, look at Cool-It Systems. DO NOT ORDER their Domino ALC, it has plastic Barbs which break easily. I found out the hard way with coolant all over my computer components. *Almost Forgot* Danger Den is a great resource. Also do not order anything from Xoxide.com, their customer service sucks and they shipped me a VGA cooler without the mounting hardware making it worthless. A final note is that you may not need to liquid cool your GPU. Most heat issues with video cards can be solved by case fans combined with increasing your VGA coolers fan speeds through overclocking software. My 9800GT would peak at 80C, I turned the fan speed up to 80%, and it never goes past 50C now and that's being overclocked to 750Mhz. Liquid cooling is most effective with CPU's and Northbridges / Southbridges. Good Luck.
updated and added case and mobo
What about PSU/HDD/DVD-DRIVE?
PSU is hardly relevant, although knowing how many free 5.25 and 3.5 inch drive bays you have available is relevant. One issue is your NB on your mobo is a snap on heatsink, not a screwed on one. That will make finding a NorthBridge cooler you can mount a little more difficult. Good News is that your case has two grottos so you can mount an external fan/radiator to the back of your case just a bit unusual they are at the top rather than side or bottom. You have more than enough information to start your research. I am sorry but I don't think I know anyone who is willing to plan this out for you. If you wanted me to plan and install the watercooling and pay me for it, then I would do the research for you, but you can't expect too much for nothing. I spent a full week researching liquid cooling for my system, just wasn't in my budget. Look into ThermalTake's big water and pro water kits.
thank you aphotic, i'll get to researching and bump this thread in the future when i figure out what i want to do [editline]08:29AM[/editline] i think i may have what i need. I don't recommend you do water cooling unless you are going to do serious overclcocking, none of those parts need watercooling a good case and good heatsink fans will do just as good as any water cooling. also wait for the 5000 series
i was planning on it JE i wasn't even planning on getting the pc in a few months i just wanted to get it all sorted out
I really do not suggest cooling your GPU's. You cannot increase their voltages so overclocking will not result in as extreme of temperature raises as with CPU's. If you INSIST** on liquid cooling your GPU's at least do it in a separate loop so if something goes wrong you are only out of 1 maybe 2 components rather than GPU's and CPU. I would suggest it be a separate and dedicated all in one loop for your gpu's leaving your cpu save and sound. Check this thread out since if you are OC'ing your CPU YOU WILL NEED a northbridge cooler - http://www.hardforums.com/showthread.php?t=1395552 Also everything you posted looks fine since you are ordering everything from DangerDen, I looked at all those products and the default Barb and Tubing diameters are 1/2 inch. However if you cannot find a 1/2" barb diameter northbridge cooler then you will need to adapt the rest of your setup since that will be the hardest to find part. Just make sure everything you order has the same diameter, you want your tubing ID to be the same as all of your barbs OD. There are ways to adapt tubing to other sized barbs but they are risky and may decrease over-all performance.
