Symptoms:

Installer page taking an age to display

"Extracting files" stage stuck, with no disk activity

Generally slow progress during installation
If you don't have a floppy drive, disable the controller in the BIOS. Most of the slowdowns are caused by the installer seeking the non-existent floppy drive in an endless loop.
Also, installing on systems with >4gb RAM can cause issues. Remove some, then put it back before activation.

nVidia nForce 4

When I did my upgrade from 7 RC to 7 RTM, shit took like two hours. Editing the installation files so I could actually do that only took a few minutes, but the actual installation process took forever.

Is it supposed to be < 4 gigs?

No. Why would you have to remove RAM if you had less than 4 gigs?
Oh God, this annoyed me so much last year when installing the beta, RC and RTM. It's nice to have a reason and a fix now though, thanks for the tip.
That happend to me a lot.
Also a floppy drive is displayed in the Computer section. And in bios i can't find i to disable that bitch.
Another possible fix: unplug any USB drives that you don't need while you're installing. I left an external HDD plugged in one time and the installation took hours until I unplugged it, as far as I could tell it was looking through every file on the drive.
