He probably wants a utility knife. I don't know about the USA, but if you got caught carrying a hunting/combat knife around in Canada (And the UK, I think), you'd be arrested.

Nah bro, EVERYONE carries around a knife these days. But for hunting/combat, I'm still pretty sure you can carry 'em around.

Honestly, it's not worth spending $100 on a "higher quality" knife. I've kept my $7 chinese single-use knife around for four years and it's held up to the stresses of anything and cut through everything I've wanted it to cut through with occasional sharpening. Getting filled with dune sand, used as a cooking utensil, left to rust in the bottom of a soaked kayak for a week, used as a prybar - and honestly, when the hex nut in the middle was tightened right, never dangerous and easy to flick open with one hand.

THIS is a knife.
If you want a blade for getting through bush, this thing is amazing for the price

I've cleared almost an acre of really sappy pine branches with this and it still cuts like it's brand new.
Also, don't get something just because it looks neat. It won't look neat when the cheaply secured tang pops out and you stab yourself in the face.

Federally you're allowed to carry a fixed or folding blade if it's not concealed. To my knowledge there aren't many municipalities that legally restrict specific blade shapes/uses, so any cop that wants to confiscate your "combat knife" can do so after citing the law he's enforcing. In some cities there might be length restrictions, though. Under 4 inches is pretty safe to be seen with.

I've had an AK for a while now and it has been the premiere of my collection. Though I won't lie there are some really nice knives on sale at the local Flea Markets just have to know what your looking for and check the quality, best part is they're very easy to replace.

"That's not knife, THIS is a- you're reading this in my bloody voice aren't ya mate? Crikey!"
my knife is so badass its named after a GUN
This is what I carry everyday, if your looking for a quality tool use a folding lock blade, if your looking for a knife that says "look at my knife, it is big I must be tough" then get a sheath knife
