I'm with John on this one; i5 is the way to go. I would say a new cooler would be a good idea, since the i5s are awesome overclockers.

The i5 is currently the best price/performance out there. If you want something a little cheaper, go for a 720 BE or 250.

955/965 doesn't compete with the if unless you want a cheaper mobo but hell a 78xG is 79 and a p55 is 99 DDR2 1066 is 60bux DDR3 1600 is 70ish, and a i5 is 199 and a 955 is 189. It is worth the extra 30bux
