• Can a AMD Phenom X4 9750 run on AM3

The one I am looking at getting is at http://www.compusa.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=5254888&CatId=3496 and it says AM2+ but I want an AM3 mobo just for the upgradiblity for the future. Also, this is a quad core for $99 but if it isn't AM3 compatible I was thinking about getting the Athalon II X4 for $99 bucks because it works on both AM2+ and AM3. My primary goal is gaming thus the future upgrades is a pretty big part of the picture.
Most motherboards with support for AM3 processors also have support for AM2 and AM2+.
Most mobo's are AM2+ and AM3, so you should be ok, but there are some mobo's out there that are AM3 and will not support most AM2+ processors (A good example is the one I almost bought ><), http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=2010200022+1070947010&QksAutoSuggestion=&ShowDeactivatedMark=False&Configurator=&Subcategory=22&description=&Ntk=&CFG=&SpeTabStoreType=&srchInDesc= This is the newegg search for AM2, AM2+, and AM3 mobo's (meaning all 3 are supported)
Thanks! I'll just make sure the motherboard is compatible
