So I'm up at my friends cottage and we're trying to get Xbox Live running from his neighbors wireless internet. The Xbox 360 will connect to the network, but when it goes to connect to the internet it simply won't connect giving me the error, "DNS server cannot resolve the names of Xbox Live servers, or Xbox.com" This is how the connection is setup, starting from the 360, going to neighbors wireless.
Xbox 360 connected to>Router (via Ethernet)>Computer (linked to router via Ethernet)>Neighbor's Router
I have tried manually setting DNS servers, but I'm not sure if I did it right, or to the right hardware.
I do have access to the neighbors router settings, being as my buddies neighbor doesn't know enough to setup security. The connection bounces between two and three bars. I did a test on speedtest.net and got a download speed of "1Meg" and a upload of ".29"
Help please?
Neighbor's Router? wtf?
How is that confusing? The neighbor has a router that emits wireless internet that I can receive with a wireless PCI card.
Just use a wired connection if its right near the computer....
The modem must be right there...
(Yes I saw your computer is using wireless)
Don't use your neighbor's internet, you'll suck up their bandwidth and shit.

We don't have a modem, just a Linksys router. The cord is going from the router through the air duct into the Xbox in the basement.

I don't think the old lady next door uses it much anyways. Xbox Live doesn't take up 1Meg of bandwidth anyways.

Yes you do.
If you use any form of modern High speed internet you NEED a modem.
Air duct?
Why?
Obviously that is not a smart idea...

Okay, did you not read this thread? I'm feeding off the neighbors wireless router. They have the modem and router, I'm just leaching.

Also, the air duct is not a bad idea, being that this cottage is heated mainly by a wood burner.

Nevermind, I fixed it myself. I did a direct connect from the Xbox 360 to the computer via Ethernet, and bridged the connections, thus giving me Xbox Live!
Thanks to those who tried. (and told me I needed a modem)
If the neighbour has any sense, they will have password protected there internet connection!
*edit* Oh wait they dont have any sense, i hope you burn in hell!
Cause ya know, using what's given is horrible.
