The 3gs that garry donated to me is finally popping its clogs :(
The power button is veeery temperamental now, I have to apply pressure to the top of the phone simply to get it to work.
Also have to apply pressure to the speaker at the top as well sometimes, as the screen stops working.
it's had a good life, spent a lot of time with garry, and a fair while with me now, s'gonna be a month or 2 till I can afford to get myself a 4s just yet..
so in the meantime, does anyone have any ideas or tips n tweaks I can try to get namely the power button functional again.
Or does anyone fancy donating me yet another old 3gs? or perhaps a 4? :quagmire:
I'm also getting myself an iPad 2 at Christmas though, so if need be I can just pop my SIM card in there for when i'm at home, and revert back to my ZTE Blade when I go out.. (ugh)
Not really much of a point to this thread other than the fact my phone's dying and I need to fix it :(
You could replace the iPhone power button, as it seems fairly easy. There's some really great instructions here: http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Installing-iPhone-3GS-Power-Button/4489/1
Turn on assistivemode. It has button functions onscreen. Should be in accessibility.
Thanks Crypto, I've turned I on. Still a bit annoying and awkward to turn it off that way but at least it works.
auction it off as garry's phone
you will bank in hundreds

Garry isn't that popular for anyone to buy a broken iPhone.

um people blow away money on custom titles of course someone would buy Garry's phone
As for the screen part, just open the phone up and re-secure the #1 FPC connector.
I don't wanna open it up and end up not being able to mend it or put it back together..
Gah, flash CM7, overclock your blade to around ~690Mhz and enable the performance governor. It will really speed it up.

I think he got lost in the woods. Too many Apple trees

And he has an Android phone which is mediocre out of the box but can very easily be improved.
That comment was relevant to the OP.

And you aren't allowed to give helpful advice in the apple section? While he might have written it in a manner that said "just go with android", it was still a piece of advice that'll make it better for the OP. Cut some slack, really.
Exactly, it will smooth out his Blade until he can get a replacement magical iPhone.
