Hi, I'm not the faggot who just got his build, I'm a different person but I need an opinion on a new GPU. ATI of course, I'm in the US and I want it from www.Newegg.com. It has to be semi decent for about 150 bucks. I was thinking a 5870 that wasn't too paperweight. So yeah help me out? Edit: upgrading from a ati hd 4870, 500w power supply, 4gb ram, AMD Athlon(tm)II x2 245 processor (2.90 GHZ) Edit Edit: Okay, what if I go up to 200, then what can I get? Edit Edit Edit: :siren:Okay, I'm gonna do it. Lets look at Nvidia.:siren:
you're not going to get an upgrade for 150 [editline]07:51PM[/editline] what model is your processor besides "athlon 2.9 dualcore cpu"
edit edit: Okay, what if i go up to 200, then what can i get?
gtx460
It doesn't have to be ATi. What's wrong with nVidia and vice versa? Anyway, I would upgrade your CPU to a PhenomII X4 955. If your resolution is less than 1680x1050 than the 4870 should be decent enough.
Get a gtx 460 :lia:
4870 to GTX 460 isn't worth it in my opinion. I would get a new CPU since his CPU is probably bottlenecking his GTX 460 if he got it.
The 4870 is still a decent card, it may be worth waiting a little longer.
Yeah but I just gave the card to my faggot nephew who just put together a build yesterday, because I knew I was upgrading my graphics, or so I thought. Also my resolution is currently 1680x1050. Ya know the sapphire 5770 is on sale from 180 to like 150. Thoughts on that?

What if I go higher than the 5770 and take the hit to my wallet. I deliver pizza so I can make the cash for it Alright I'm opening up Nvidia as a possiblity. My first graphics card ever was a, I think a 9770 waaaay back when it was fuck shit top of the line. Only good experiences with ATI here, but I'm not afraid, to take a stand, everybody come take my hands. :frogdowns: You know what? I forgot to mention it was 512mb instead of 1gb
Upgrading from an 4870 to an 5770 is like you spend a lot of money for nothing. GTX 460 is the way to go.
XFX, Asus, Annything But saphhire.
Sapphire is good I thought.
XFX, Asus, Annything But saphhire.
Sapphire is fine...

Edition 1GB, which is very good too, but it's not come out yet.
AMP! Edition is overpriced, once you're up in that range you can start looking at GTX 470s.
AMP! Edition is overpriced, once you're up in that range you can start looking at GTX 470s.
Wat [editline]10:30PM[/editline] It's just about 250-260$, +20$ than the reference card.
OP do you have the possibility of SLI/Crossfire on your motherboard? If so, maybe grab a simple 5770 (or 460 if possible) for now, then later upgrade your PSU, and get a second videocard?
Stop giving advice about buying an HD 5770. OP has already an 4870, for God's sake. [editline]11:15PM[/editline] It's like someone give me advice about buying the GT 240, even if I have already an 9600GT.
Wat [editline]10:30PM[/editline] It's just about 250-260$, +20$ than the reference card.
I don't see the point. You could buy an MSI Cyclone version for $5 over stock price, and overclock it to those speeds easily.
The AMP is for lazy people or those who don't want to loose their warranty by o/c their graphic card.

Or I just have bad reading.
Only because he thought he was upgrading. A 5770 from a 4870 isn't one. The GTX460 be the way to for a upgrade.
Actually I digress, after looking at some benchmarks, the Zotac GTX 460 AMP! tails behind the GTX 470 by 1 FPS in almost every benchmark. It's a pretty good deal. So I suppose if you don't have the balls to void your warranty it would be a good buy.
I would also say go for a gtx 460. I am not sure whether your cpu will bottleneck it but it's better than 5770, which will be very little improvement.
Can I get a link to a good 460 that isn't too shitty of a brand? FYI I don't give a fuck about my warranty, should something go wrong I'll just get another one.
