• I need to re-install windows without loosing my personal data.

Apparently my friend installed an illegal copy of windows on my computer while repairing it for me and I didn't find out until today. So I'm going to install my legit copy of 7 using my recovery disks. I need to uninstall windows then re-install windows without loosing my personal data,(about 100-200 gigs worth of data). I can't find a tutorial that tells me how, only how to make a recovery partition. I don't have an external hard drive or an extra hard drive or any back up media with enough memory to save what I need to save. Any suggestions? And I don't have any money. Thanks in advanced, brothers.
If you have a legitimate key, just reactive with it (If MS disabled your current "illegal" key). No need to reinstall If activation works and so does all other windows feature, who cares if the original installation was not from a original disk.

Plus the key is home premium the system installed is ultimate.
Sign up at mozzy multiple times. [editline]03:23PM[/editline] Send data to a friend to keep on his harddrive. Use your parents computer. Use your sisters, etc..

You can't downgrade from Ultimate to Home Premium without totally reinstalling Windows which will lose all your settings and programs. The data will still be on the drive unless you format it, but the new Windows won't know about the old install. What would you do if your hard drive failed and you lost all the data? Invest in a backup solution even if it takes a couple of months to save up for a £50 external drive.
Ask him what program he used to crack it, and use it to uninstall the crack (if it lets you) then reactivate Windows using your legit key.
There's no way to make a partition just for data?
There is but if you don't know what you're doing I wouldn't recommend it unless you back everything up first. You can shrink your existing partition then make a new one in the free space you create, but it's hit and miss how much you can shrink by based on where on the physical disk files are stored.
Could you link me to a tutorial?
It's for Vista but the steps are exactly the same in Windows 7: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/95398-disk-management-shrink-partition.html [editline]9[/editline]
There is but if you don't know what you're doing I wouldn't recommend it unless you back everything up first.
If you screw up and haven't made a backup, you only have yourself to blame.

And it's mostly just media and a collection of my Ex girlfriend digital art work. If I loose it it's not the end of the world, just really gonna piss me off. But of course I'll blame my self.
