Computer Lights Flash On For Half a Second, Then Turns Off

Hey all, I was playing Grand Theft Auto 4 a few weeks ago, when suddenly my computer shut off. I attempted to turn it back on, and when I pressed the button, my computer lit up for a split second and then shut off. Attempting it again right after didn't light anything up, and just wouldn't turn on. I waited for a while, did it again, and it lit up again. It seems that doing it sequentially won't have it light up multiple times (I have no idea if this is a big deal, but I figured I'd throw it in just in case). I thought it was an issue with the power supply, so I tried a new one, and it didn't work. I'm fairly certain that I plugged in all the right things into the motherboard and all, and am not sure what to do now. Anyone have any idea?
Thanks for reading and answering!
Is it anything like this, but with a desktop? http://www.facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1202667
If so, i gave mine to tech support at a friend's work and she gave it back to me fixed saying it was the mobo. Sorry I can't give more info :/
Doesn't even get to the desktop. I heard the motherboard BIOS might be the issue, and that someone here on FP took the battery thing out for half a day and it worked. I unplugged it and will try it again when I get up. I also tried another GPU and that didn't work either.
Fixed it. It was the motherboard. A new one fixed it.
I had the exact same issue with my PC, I replaced my PSU and it worked but started having issues again within a day, I haven't checked since then but it's good to hear what the cause of your issue was, gives me hope it's not my $400 graphics card.
I had this problem with my first build a few years ago, turns out it was to do with the CPU socket being coated in dust. ( somehow )
