• Will DVI to HDMI carry audio?

ok so I bought a hp hd monitor here: http://www.staples.com/HP-2010i-20-Widescreen-LCD-Monitor/product_866943?storeId=10001&jspStoreDir=Staples&cmSearchKeyword=hp+2010&fromUrl=home&langId=-1&catalogId=10051&cmArea=SEARCH&ddkey=StaplesSearch And in the description it said has hdmi. So my new computer with DVI, VGA, and HDMI outputs I wanted an HDMI monitor (yes it has to use HDMI for the capture card I use.) So when I open the box, guess what, only educated people should work at staple. The monitor has no HDMI in. so pissed off I called staple and they said, "Buy this more expensive one" So I found this http://cgi.ebay.com/PSP-BD-DVI-Male-HDMI-Female-Adapter-Converter-HDTV-/250631654360?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3a5acf8bd8 and the seller claims in the description that it will transmit audio. So not wanting to waste any more money I want to know your opinion. PS the monitor has built in speakers.
DVI can't transmit audio. If the input on the monitor is DVI you'll need to send audio over a different cable.

Thinking I this is my computer monitor and It dosent have hdmi why would I want to put the cap cards out into it. And the cap card soft ware most likely has a full screen option. And the monitor came with an audio out plug so not really a problem. Still pissed that STAPLES FUCKING LIED

You just gotta sift through their bullshit and do your own research.
I have my monitor hooked up via a DVI to HDMI converter and it gets audio.
DVI can carry audio, whether the hardware at either end supports audio on DVI though... Since DVI and HDMI are compatible, a HDMI-Audio+Video signal with a DVI adapter on the end will give you a DVI-Audio+Video signal.
Don't go to Staples. I tried to buy a laptop there once and the dude harassed me for like forty-five minutes before I gave up and left. He tried to sell me everything, trying to convince me that I would have to buy a new router because the laptop was new , pushing the $300 protection plan, offering to burn recovery disks for $80, pushing AV software, backup software, firewalls, bags, battery backup, etc. On every point I'd say "I don't need that" or "I've got that covered" and he would try to tell me what I already had was inadequate or insist ten more times. He wasn't nice about it either, he had a smug "I know more than you that's why I work at Staples" attitude the whole time. It just got too ridiculous and I said "this is ridiculous, I'm leaving" about-faced and walked out.
last time I went to Staples they had a 9500 GT for $130 and a 512MB stick of DDR3 333 for $70 [editline]08:01PM[/editline] and Windows 7 Ultimate for ~$300

You don't get audio via DVI. You will get audio via HDMI. Some video cards can encode audio via the DVI>HDMI adapter in order to get HDMI audio to a HDTV. Edit: Unless they made a new revision for DVI in the past year or there is some makeshift way.
