• Nexus 5X: Smart to Purchase in 2016

Hello All! This is more a less me asking the opinion of the fellow Android users out there. I currently am rocking an iPhone 6S for my daily driver but I'm kind of sick of iOS being behind the times and the restrictions it places on its users. I am looking to switch to Android and have heard great things about the Nexus devices. I don't want anything too big so I set my eyes in the Nexus 5X as it also has been seeing some great deals popping up. With Google set to refresh its Nexus lineup late this year, I am curious if you think that it is wise to purchase a Nexus 5X now to take advantage of the deals or is it better to wait and see what Google releases later this year? Thanks in advance!
Google generally doesn't refresh their hardware until October/November so if you need a new phone, then I wouldn't hesitate to purchase one. That said I would suggest going to somewhere you can try out the 5X and possibly the 6P too if you can, the 6P is definitely the better device, and it doesn't honestly feel too big, but I think you need to try it to make that judgement.
I forgot to mention that I did try the 6P out but found that it was simply way too big for my tastes but absolutely love Android.
i would just go into a store and browse your options, see what you like, then come back and get some input. you may like samsung, lg, or even htc.
Nexus is such a good phone. My brother owned one about a year or so ago. Definitely a phone worth buying. Android systems are WAY better than iOS. iOS always crashes a lot on my iPad, and I am of the opinion that Apple care more about making money, than how good their systems are, and how satisfied customers are. Android seem to be a lot more customer, and software aware. Definitely go to a local phone shop and ask for some advice, or even search online forums/youtube reviews, they can be pretty helpful too.
I would go for the Nexus 5X. It's the phone I'm currently using, and I absolutely love it! It's literally the first phone I haven't put a Custom ROM on, because the stock ROM is so fucking good. For me, the battery life is great, and it also takes really good photos, and video too. I couldn't be more happy with it. :ok:
Thanks for the input everyone! The only thing I'm worried about is performance lag on the 5X in the long run. I don't use my phone for gaming hardly at all so I don't necessarily need a powerhouse. Ever run into those issues?

Ever run into those issues?
Shouldn't be a problem, I haven't experiencing any performance problems with my Nexus 5X. I really don't play that many games on my phone, but I have no problems running games like Hearthstone and such.
I have the 5X, brilliant phone for the price. I've played Hearthstone a little on it, but I don't play Hearthstone in general, so I didn't find it annoying. GTA3 ran fine. Battery life's pretty nice, I haven't had problems with it. Definitely less than other phones, but I carry around the charger that came with the phone, it's 5V 3A and the phone will happily pull that, so the battery charges real fast.
That settles it then I guess! Switching come my next paycheck. Thanks everyone!
pick up Google Project Fi if you can, man oh man is it nicer than your standard carrier
Really depends on your carrier/location/plan
I use Verizon right now which isn't too bad. If you buy a 5X with Project Fi you get a really nice discount though. Might look into it.
I did the Nexus 5X with the project Fi and I love it. The phone plan alone is great, as in my area I've never lost service or had any issues. It's easy to set up and monitor too. The data works as you pay for a certain amount and if you don't use it all they reimburse you it. You get an unlocked phone for $200 as well that's normally a lot more expensive, which is great. The phone has had no issues, runs fast, and feels amazing. I pay the extra $5 a month too for the protection plan, since I'd rather not have to pay regular price if anything happens to this. I highly recommend it.
I've been playing with the idea of picking up a 5x myself, my 4 is starting to show it's age a bit now. The battery is dying, and even with Cyanogen and a custom kernel I can't mitigate it properly. Seems like a pretty decent upgrade. Going by the opinions here I might look into getting one sometime soon.
I recently got one, very nice device that I would recommend.
I got my 5X for $266 after tax when Project Fi went open-enrollment. Very snappy, camera does 120fps slow-mo (240 with tweaks but its buggy) and i like the fingerprint scanner on the back. No usability complaints. My main bitch is that the speakerphone isn't as loud as i'd like, and the USB type C is only USB2 speeds. And the charger is USB C to C, so I had to buy 2 C to As for my desk and car.
the USB type C is only USB2 speeds.
What? When i use mine in a USB 3 port, It happily goes up to maximum speed. Maybe you got a dodgy cable?

It's USB 2.0 with Type C connector.
Since the Oneplus 3 seems to be right around the corner, perhaps it's interesting for you to get it, if it's in the same price range as the Oneplus 2, chances are it might be worth it.
