IMO this looks like a way more fun game compared to Minecraft.
My only problem is that most of the landscapes they showed off don't look very interesting.
These build tools alone would be the biggest selling point for me, however i'm going to sit this one out to see if it actually becomes something interesting.
The ability to ride cars, drills, planes and more is also a fun feature.

And if i read it correctly your towns and stuff can actually have friendly NPC's wandering around doing their business.

you're right lego was created purely out of inspiration of minecraft
So I've been playing it now for about half an hour and it looks like a game with potential. The building tools are pretty neat and the concept is there but it REALLY needs to be fleshed out much more. Obviously it's an early access game and I really hope this becomes something much more.
As far as I can see the brick palette is currently limited to just brick type pieces but it's definitely enough to make some awesome stuff. The controls are kind of finnicky but work. I think a lot of people would recommend a controller setup of sorts because the camera work is really iffy. The engine looks really nice but I feel like the depth of field effect is too emphasized. It's not very visually demanding but even on my 4670k + crossfired 7950's the framerate will drop when building large objects with many bricks.
For a lot of the content in-game, you unlock it by discovering it. Like props, characters, pre-built vehicles, animals, and stuff like that. Then you have to use studs to unlock those items permanently. I don't see any story mode or anything like that so it very much feels a bit like a tech demo, but if you're a fan it's probably worth trying.
Unless you're a die-hard Lego fan I'd suggest holding on to your 15$ for now. I'd wait and see what the developers do with the game.
Be aware that there are only 101 basic bricks to build with. There's hardly anything you can build with them apart from terrain-like models. There are obviously more parts available in the game so I wonder why they didn't give them to us.

I think with the right technique, use, and color choice you can definitely build much more than terrain-like models. What's missing are those other parts you mentioned that are used mostly for detail imo.
Looks a lot like blockland

i meant that this game is a minecraft rip-off

it doesn't even have survival mode or crafting wtf
thats like saying minecraft ripped off of Roblox
can developers not make building games anymore?

it's an open world building game
if not a rip-off at least inspired by the success of
every open world building game is now a rip-off of minecraft

since when is this uncommon practice in the game industry?
wtf did you expect a Lego game without building?

more the open world bit
im really not sure why you guys are doing this
more the open world bit

You called it a Minecraft rip-off. Not a Minecraft-inspired game. You had it coming.
What I think they should have done with this game, is make it F2P, but sell DLC packs with licensed materials, like Star Wars or Marvel
Though I wouldn't be surprised if they sold those as DLC anyways.
Also huh this made by the same people who make most if not all the Lego Adventure games
I wonder how far it will go in terms of building though. Like stuff that isn't aligned to a stud grid. Technic pieces would be pretty cool to build with.

I've wanted them to make a newer, less buggy version of this for years

Please let there be some Mindstorms stuff
Minecraft-inspired or not, I bet creative-mode Minecraft players will like the building tools.
If I can't live out the huge, extravagant lego-man battles I created as a kid, I want no part of this.

following this logic Half life and Call of Duty are Wolfenstein/doom rip offs
I take it Rust is a dayz rip off too, and Witcher is a diablo ripoff, or that sleeping dogs is a grand theft auto / true crime rip off
next you're going to tell me bloodborne is a dark souls rip off, or Yooka-Laylee is a Banjo and Kazooie rip off, despite the same people being behind it
I bet Oblivion is a Minecraft rip off

do you not know what lego is or something?
what does it being open world have to do with anything
This would be a ripoff if it was Lego: Mineworld with minecarts and the exact inventory / item system, with tree punching and exploding cacti, but it's not... it's just lego
"Captured in game"
Blatant bullshots, sure they might have captured it but I doubt all that fancy post processing will be present at release

I've been playing it, it looks just like the video.
it is on the same engine as the most recent Lego games made by Traveler's Tales, they all look this good. Lego Marvel Superheroes is one of the best looking Lego games I've played

It kind of makes me long for the days before themed kits, where you basically build blocky as hell stuff and used your imagination for the rest.
If I could dress up as the rad pizza delivery dude in this game, then I might get this.
You can be an undead Johnny Thunder, that's just as good imo.
Also speaking of; the Lego Island theme on loop fits this game so damn well.

Now wait till they shut it down due to the enormous number of cocks made in the game
