Here is my current selected specs. I'm using the site iBUYPOWER since my friend also used the site and his computer is pretty epic. My purpose would be heavy Steam gaming that demands a good build. Games like Battlefield 3, Crysis, Skyrim etc. I also want these maxed out. I want the budget to stay around what it currently is, which would be $1863. Why would you get a GTX 590 and then pair it with a 1440x900 monitor and a phenom II? You won't get any noticeable performance increase over other cards at that res with a 590.

Swap out the monitor for one at 1920x1080 or higher. Change to an i5-2500K instead of a Phenom II.

$1,540 from newegg, you can save $60ish on the case if you don't want something as fancy/expensive, I just went with something that's well liked and is in the price range you'll want to spend on a case with that budget, but it's all personal preference.
Monitor.. you can get an IPS if you want but I'm not quite 'in the know' on the best IPS's right now so someone else can replace it if they want.
And a GTX 570 because, you just don't need a 590 unless you're running three screens, and you're clearly not doing that, 570 will easily max any game current or future (to some extent). And no high end cooler because I doubt this guy is going to do some serious overclocking, not like he needs to either really.
