Might be a bit hopeful, but anyone proficient in UK Copyright Law? Urgent help!

Hi guys, I know this is a SUPER long shot, but I do need serious help.
Me and my girlfriend just launched our first free digital magazine involving photographers and models.
Our site clearly states that only images for which you have explicit permission to use is allowed to be submitted.
So we completed the magazine and launched it with photos sent in from models out of their portfolio.
However we got contacted by a photographer who says we don't have permission to use his images (even though the model submitted the photo).
He is now threatening with legal action and wants compensation for the use of the images.
Can he do this? The images are no longer online, and we removed them within 12 hours of him messaging us, and we only included them as our T&C on the site say you must have permission to submit them.
He is threatening us with legal actions and throwing alot of legal words about, does he have a case? And can he make us pay him for the fact the images were in the magazine for under 12 hours? He wants £150 PER photo (2 photos total) or he will get his lawyer on us.
Please help seriously giving me sleepless nights and pissed off days.
Instead of asking Facepunch, why not get in touch with a lawyer?
Facepunch isn't for legal advice.

Done already, more info you have the better, and there are some very bright sparks on FP.
Why not contact the model? Surely they must have some sort of agreement with the photographer about when and where their photos can be used.

She seems VERY hostile, and I personally believe they are working together to get some quick cash off of me.
She takes NO responsibility and is laying all blame this way and refusing to even talk.
Seems like a copyright troll to me (albeit one that creates the violation himself), fairly sure it costs more than 300 pounds to sue someone over this.
In any case, your lawyer should be able to tell you this.
