I can crimp my own cables no problem however I'm in a spot now where I need two outlets but only one cable. Before gigabit the Cat 5 cabling ouly used the orange and green strands and did not use the blue or brown ones so I thought:
PAIR 1 Orange - 1 Orange/stripe - 2 Green/stripe - 3 Green - 6 PAIR 2 Blue - 1 Blue/stripe - 2 Brown/stripe - 3 Brown - 6
Would let me crimp two low speed ethernet lines through the same cable however it isn't working. Have I forgotten something?
It should work? Assuming you have the wires on both ends correctly situated in the connectors. Do you have a wire tester handy? [editline]18th April 2013[/editline] Unless you're running some sort of ridiculous distance where EMI from the other wire pairs would matter
Dug out my tester and it's the punch block in the wall. It's marked for Cat5 ethernet but the inner PCB is pinned for ISDN and all the punches were wrong. I swear I clicked the back button instead of posting this....
