• Logitech G300 - fifth USB wire?

So, a few months ago our rabbit set his claws in the original cable of my mouse, and he managed to damage the inner wires. Now I found it in my bin, and I decided to have a go and try to recover it. [T]http://i.imgur.com/ZZA4klx.jpg[/T] I gotta confess my soldering is very messy. Now the thing is, this cable has four wires, while the original cable had an additional black one. [T]http://i.imgur.com/CCjfekE.jpg[/T] Is this wire important by any chance, or is it just some kind of additional grounding? I'm asking this because I just hooked it up to my computer, and the optical LED flashed a few times and windows prompts me the USB device is not recognized. Thanks a lot in advance for your time.
Black is always negative, the thick one was probably connected to the outside metal part of the plug in the original wire And no offense man, but that's one of the worst soldering jobs I've ever seen so I'm not surprised your PC couldn't recognize the mouse, looks like you might have even damaged the tracks to the bottom left of the connector
try using more flux and not burning the pads off as above poster says, both black wires are GND just get a new wireless mouse or something
oh, those marks are just some burnt flux. Spilled a bit too much on the board by accident. [T]http://i.imgur.com/WEru8xY.jpg[/T] Just wiped those burn marks off and the tracks don't appear damaged.

You're risking blowing your mouse and USB controller up if anything gets short circuited.
Quick of an update, it DID work until I wanted to put it back together again. So I at least know the mouse itself isn't damaged. Gonna redo the soldering from scratch and clean the PCB, because I have to admit this is just fucking pathetic.
