• Microphone stopped working

I have a Sennheiser PC 151 headset, not usb. While installing bf2 and going through the microphone volume process, I noticed that my microphone output was going from silent to very loud static, then back at random. Turning the mic on and off also had an effect on toggling this static. When I recorded my voice with audacity, it would occasionally pick up my voice, other times it wouldn't pick up anything. I figured I'd deal with it later and moved on. Now, a few hours later, I recorded in audacity. No audio was being picked up. I tried unplugging it and plugging it back in, turning the mic on and off, and wiggling the connectors. Nothing worked. I tried the headset in another computer and got the same results. One computer is running Windows XP Professional 64-bit, the other is running XP Professional 32 bit. I could not find any problems related to this through google. I have had this headset for around 6-8 months.
In your microphone settings, can you turn the Mic Boost up to maybe 20 db?
Make sure that you have the correct plug selected, mine used to change to digital all the time which is caused it to muck up

I meant in your sound and audio options, even if it's plugged into the correct hole. Mine is plugged into my 3.55 mm jack which is my Realtek High Definition Audio, but for a time it was selecting the Realtek Digital where my microphone wasn't plugged in. Check under sound options in control panel
