Hey all, I've managed to narrow it down to some specific parts however I could use some help. Now I'm looking to buy this locally in a shop and they quoted me on some prices. Looking online I can do much better, however I'm not quite confident to build the thing entirely. Yet the prices they quoted are quite high. Case - Not to sure what is available, £40-60 on a case. - Store suggested Antec 300 at £56 CPU - Intel i5 - 2500k 3.30GHz (SandyBridge) LGA 1155 Socket - Store quoted £199 Motherboard - Asus P8Z77-V LX Intel Z77 (Socket 1155) - Store quoted £105 PSU - Not sure about this. Ideally enough to power the machine stably. 750W? 850W? Need expert opinion here. - Store suggested PowerCool 850W at £70 Hard-drive - 1 or 2TB. Price, ideally whatever is the best - 1TB Western Digital at £75 and 2TB at £90 GPU - Looking mainly at the Nvidia GTX 680. If it does get too pricey GTX 670 would work as well. - Store quoted £540 for a Asus 2GB GDDR5 GTX 680 OC, and £400 for a Asus 2GB GDDR5 GTX 670 OC RAM - 8GB No specific brands whatever is the best price and what works best with the configuration. - Store quoted £55 for Kingston HyperX 8GB (2x4GB) Extras CPU Fan - Knowing the size of the stock Intel CPU fans I'm probably going to buy a separate one. Not sure what is available. I've had a look at those CPU Watercooler units that just cool the CPU, minimizing the need for a full liquid set up. Otherwise just a heat-sink fan £40-60 - Store suggested Cooler Master Hyper 612S for £45 DVD-RW - CD Drive just to ensure I can play the odd CD/Installation Disc. - Store quoted £20 OP - Windows 7 So as you can see some of them are priced a bit higher than I was anticipating. Now I will email them back asking if they have other models in stock, however I'm unsure with what alternatives. If you could suggest some ideas that would be handy so I can email them asking. Otherwise I might go online. Thanks. EDIT: Forgot to note that the PC will be used for Mid/High end Gaming and 3D/2D graphics modeling/editing. Might help with narrowing down.
A 750W PSU would be plenty, and I haven't heard of PowerCool before. Also, I'd get the GTX 670, it's nearly equal to the 680 in terms of performance and costs a lot less, not to mention you can OC it yourself to 680 performance anyways. The rest looks good though.
I thought so about the 750W, I have no idea why they were so adamant about the 850W... Now I'm thinking they might be a bit unprofessional :/ Also is the GPU prices okay? I found the £500 for the 680 to be a bit steep as well as £400 for a 670 looking online I saw 670 for half of that. I'm probably going to have a think for a while.
You're missing keyboard, mouse and speakers but I didn't include them as you didn't include them in what you've listed. There's a monitor in there though. If the budget doesn't include Monitor, and other peripherals, you can bump up some of the stuff I've listed.
Umm that's quite good indeed, certainly exceeds what I've posted. Take off the monitor and that's even better (You assumed right, I've got 2 monitors and mouse keyboard) What I'm going to do is email them asking if they have those components, see what they quote for those and go from there. Thanks
No problem, glad to be of some help
Okay, So the store never replied. Therefore I've decided to do this thing myself. Pretty much following what Meekle posted I've come down to this. Just want one final check to make sure everything is compatible and will live up to mid/high end gaming and 3D modeling. I've checked most of it online, however I'm just getting my head around all the different brands and components available. Alright thanks, I've changed the HD. However I'm sticking with the 750w It's within my price range so it should be fine. I'm pretty happy with it so I think I'm gonna order it tomorrow.
