Well. more the buying part... but yeah, i am looking to get a new computer, and i have decided to build it myself, but since i have veeery little idea about whats good in parts, whats not, and even with research, i still have next to no idea. So i have turned to FP for some help!
Right. If you could choose the parts for me, that would be... very helpful. here is the information i have for building:
Budget: £350 (its not a lot, but its all i can manage )
Games/Applications: TF2, Gmod, WoW, Zeno Clash. Nothing more taxing that that, i would imagine.
Monitor resolution: 1152x864
Re-using: Monitor, optical drives, keyboard, mouse, headphones.
I live in Britain, so i need the parts to be able to ship to Britain.
Extras: I need an OS. Yes, that makes things horrible, but it is needed.
I have heard that the Intel Pentium Dual Core e5200 is good for budget builds. Don't know if thats any help.
Right, thanks if you can put it together :D
Wait.
You're not going to get a very good build for 350.
Yeah, i know, but i really REALLY need to upgrade from my current 1.6ghz single core processor, under a gigabyte of RAM, like a 70gb HD. its really kinda essential.
Post your current computer specs. Are you upgrading from your old computer? or just building a whole new one?
Building a new one. I wouldnt think upgrades for this computer would be of any point, as:
The motherboard is so old it can't accept anything better than single core processors, the hard drive is old, and uses IDE instead of the newer SATA. So its kinda stupid spending good money upgrading it instead of buying a the parts for a new one. (the other parts in this computer are just as bad as the rest of it)
Specs of this comp:
1.6GHz AMD sempron 2400+ processor
768mb ram
nvidia geforce 5200 128mb ram.
100 gb IDE HD
As you can see, a new computer is a must.

It's a little over budget, but worth it.

what shop is that?
Link or something please.
Also no OS, OP, do you have an XP disk or something lying around, you could use that until you have the cash for Vista w/ win7.

Lemon: No, i got this computer WAAAAAY back. it was built for me by a friend of one of my parents, who loaded XP onto it for me. So no luck there :(
I just noticed you said you needed an OS. If there is no other way you can get one, I'll try and rebuild it with one included, but it'll be drastically slower performance wise.

That case comes with a power supply.
That case comes with a power supply.
Yeah, but it's not really suitable for a gaming PC. You need one that's guaranteed to be efficient and reliable, two things that PSU is unlikely to provide.

I said that because the psu increases the price of the case. You could get a better one for around the same price that doesn't include one: http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/prods/Components/Cases/Cases/Novatech/TORNADOCAS-908BLACK.html

I suppose. But that is one ugly arse case.
Yeah, thanks guys, good builds if i had an OS,but im still looking for one with an OS.
Might have to go with a First-Gen Phenom/Athlon 64x2 processor, 4650 graphics, cheaper PSU, and 1Gb of Ram to fit in an OS.
Or go something along the lines of Pentium dual core E2200 (or wahtever budget allows)
cheapo case
cheapo PSU, (I know, but it is a tight budget)
cheapo mobo (probably matx)
4670
vista basic with win7 basic
2GB DDR2 800
320GB sata HDD if budget allows.
we got pretty much the same thing off ebuyer (minus the graphics) for about £300
Also, i have posted similar questions like this on a couple of pc forums, and got a build from a person, just wanna know what you think of it FP?
Memory:http://www.ebuyer.com/product/139662

CPU:http://www.ebuyer.com/product/168971
PSU:http://www.ebuyer.com/product/152505
Case:http://www.ebuyer.com/product/160918
GPU:http://www.ebuyer.com/product/155496
OS:http://www.ebuyer.com/product/123051
Just a bit worried about whether the PSU will have enough power to power the GPU.
Change the GPU to a 4670, and you could upgrade the processor.
No, I wouldn't trust that PSU to fuel the 4850.
any particular brand of 4650? like MSI, asus... etc.
Zamorikan add exchange this.

meh, goes over by 28 euros but you can change the CPU if you want.
@ OP get Whatever's cheaper.
@Soldier, do you Americans assume europe is a country, euro=/=GBP stuff is generally cheaper in the UK.
