Herro More than a few days ago I installed Kubuntu 9.04 on my Sager laptop. At the beginning things were going great. Installation was going good. All was fine. Then once i got to the desktop and after setting things up, i switched from using ethernet for internet to wireless. Then for some weird reason when i had to restart, when it tried to boot into kubuntu, it would give me errors, i got a few different ones, one of then being a green screen O_o. Does anyone know why i would be getting problems from jut switching to the wireless internet setting. Its seemd to always happen after i switched to wireless, becuase i ended up reinstalling it 4 times trying to figure out what was wrong :/. Any help on this this oddness would be great.
I have no idea, since I've always used Ubuntu, and I'm not quite sure what the differences are, but I was just curious which Sager laptop you have. I have the NP5793, and I love it. Also, why don't you try another Distro?
Im not sure what other Distro to try. I would like to use a distro that is fast, simple to use. clean and also i would be gaming on it some. Ive seen stuff about Cedega. I did use wine and PlayOnLinux when Kubuntu was working. Oh and Kubuntu i guess i basically Ubuntu but with the KDE Desktop Environment. Also about Cegeda for the gaming. I think i heard you have to play for it. Is there anything free that is good for gaming on Linux. Just to give an idea of what i play --All Source game (Valve), S.T.A.L.K.E.R Soc and CS, Far Cry, Civ4, and just a bunch others. Oh and my Sager is a NP9262 [editline]09:31PM[/editline] I just looked at Linux Mint-7 and it said it has more for wireless drivers. I wonder if it could have been a driver problem. Ima pop Mint on my lappy and see how that goes. I hope the install isnt too long. I gotz meh sleep messed up trying to get Kubuntu to work D:
Switch to Mandriva Linux. Use Wine in place of Codega.
What are the pros of Mandriva Linux? What would be cons?
Wait, let's try to fix this problem before you switch distributions. If I understand it correctly, you have had Kubuntu installed before installing Linux Mint. Then you booted your new Linux Mint installation off the hard-drive. After that, you switched to wireless and it prompted you to reboot. Then GRUB (boot menu) tried to boot Kubuntu, but then a green screen was displayed. It sounds like Linux Mint installed and set up your wireless drivers once you logged in, and then needed a restart for the changes to take effect. After you came across the boot menu and Kubuntu was selected, it failed to boot the partition with Kubuntu. GRUB then gave you a warning on a green (Mint's standard color) screen that it was unable to boot. From all of that, I would say you should just boot into Mint again and reconfigure GRUB so it boots Kubuntu correctly. However, I am probably wrong as I need more clarification on what was displayed and what you did. Otherwise, that's all I got.

I havent installed Mint yet. I have the ISO burnt to DVD but it seemed to take a long time to do stuff. So right at this moment im on Kubuntu. The wireless problem just has been on Kubuntu with no other Linux OS messing with it. Should i maybe look for wireless drivers..could that possibly fix the problem?
Well, wireless is a very strange issue on Linux for beginners, as sometimes it works out of the box, other times the package manager grabs the right driver, and in rare cases it needs to be compiled as a new module. And to make matters worse, Kubuntu, in my opinion, is not a good distribution. It is pretty clear Ubuntu gets most of the love in the *ubuntu family. If you like the desktop of Kubuntu (KDE), I would try Mandriva or OpenSuse instead. So in short, search for your "<your wireless card> linux" and see what others say if you want to stay with Kubuntu. If you do not care, install Linux Mint.
Yes, Cedega costs money. Why did you install Linux, even, if you want to play these games? Wine (which Cedega is based upon) does not work that well. Do not install Linux if you just want to play video games (and, generally, don't have a reason to use it)
I'm glad you decided to give Linux Mint a chance, it's by far the best distro I've ever used for years now, since version 3.1 (Celena).
By best, I assume you mean easiest and most user friendly to use.
There is no such thing as an overall best Linux distro. Everybody has their own preferences and distros are there to match people's different preferences.
What are the pros of Mandriva Linux? What would be cons?
Kubuntu is very buggy. For KDE, Mandriva is the way to go.
