My laptop shuts down on it's own randomly .... it only happens when I'm playing computer games (so far).
At first I thought it was the game "Dead Island" causing this ... since this only started happening as soon as I installed Dead Island and at first it only ever happened while I was playing Dead Island. Just now it did it while I was playing "Left 4 Dead 2".
I'm thinking maybe it's just gaming in general that's over-doing my laptop.
The bottom of my laptop HAS been becoming increasingly hot ... and the fan is making a loud noise now.
But my specs are good and my laptop isn't that old either, maybe around 1 year old.
[B]Specs:[/B]
>1GB Graphics
>4GB RAM
>intel Core i7 1.6GHz
>Windows 7
>64-bit OS
Could it be my Power is weakening due to some reason? Or a virus?
I still think it might be "Dead Island" ... like I said, I got the game about a week ago ... and this started happening as soon as I installed and played it. But since my laptop has become increasingly hot and loud, I fear it might be something else.
It sounds like you might have to check the inside of your laptop.
Thanks for the tip ... I looked into it today. Nothing seemed out of place ... other than the fan having some dust on it ... but that's normal.
I even took some photos with my phone if anyone thinks that's going to help and wants to see them ... maybe someone will pick up something that I missed.
But really, nothing seemed out place/loose/damaged/burnt etc...
Although this did only start happening after I installed and played Dead Island ... I also might think it just might be my hardware.
My laptop is becoming increasingly hot so I fear it may be overheating ... but since my laptop also shuts off during L4D2 ...
I'm guessing I could have a PSU problem.
I have no spare PSU's to test it ... so it there another way to test if it's my PSU?

Your fear of it overheating is correct. I suggest stopping all strain on the system. And replace the thermal paste for one thing. And I noticed if there is a heat sink over the GPU, like there should be. (I've seen some without.) Put some thermal paste on it, as well. Doesn't hurt it any.
Why do I say to stop strain?
You wanna have no GPU at all?
Straining the system while it's overheating will lead to absolute GPU meltdown. Where it will fry itself, and become useless.
Edit:
Also if you opened up the heatsink, you just ruined the thermal paste. So... If you did, I doubt you'd be returning here to read this any time soon...

Yeah,...... no.
Lets do some troubleshooting first before jumping to conclusions and painting exaggerated doom scenario's
1:
Before doing much, download HW monitor and Furmark.
Setup HW monitor and run furmark for 10 minutes in stability test mode.
Post results.
2:If your GPU or CPU are indeed overheating you should open up your laptop (like you have done already) and check for dust. If there is none you should apply new thermal paste between the heat sink and the GPU/CPU core.
3:All hardware has a thermal shutdown failsafe so dont worry about breaking it to bad (unless you run with no heatsink) Long exposure to high temperatures can shorten the lifespan though.
OK I downloaded something called "RealTemp".
It had two applications called "Real temp" and "Real temp GT"
so here are both

and
[url]http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/10/comptempgt.png/[/url]
I put the [img] and [/img] tags but they're not working ... so i cut them out in hopes these will still give a link to the images...
That is good, but it doesnt show annything about your GPU or temperatures under load.
If these are idle temperatures you do have a major problem though.

Please get Furmark and HW monitor.
I've done the HWMonitor test but with the Furmark I'm currently doing the Burn In test ... are these one of those things that won't stop unless I manually stop it myself?
Here is the result for the HWMonitor

Well the temperatures are a tad high but that is not very uncommon for a laptop.
Can you open up the bottom of your laptop and check for dust in the heatsink?
Also do you get any error message or bluescreen?
Well while doing the Burn In Test with Furmark ... one of the risks its stated was that the system may shutdown ... which I'm no surprised ... it did.
I literally just got back now from turning it back on.
Do I have to do anything specific with the heatsink to check for dust? Or is it just a simple task of opening up the bottom and just looking around at it?
EDIT:
Last time I checked which was yesterday ... the fan was a bit dusty ... that was all the dust I could see from just looking at it from a birds eye view. I didn't actually take any components out.
Just open up the bottom and take a picture of the heatsink if you are not sure.
Do not remove the heatsink from the core or you will have to reapply the thermal paste.

I think this is what you want to see the most isn't it. As you can see the fan has a bit of dust, I cleaned it a bit but I'll do a more thorough job if you think it's needed. At the time I thought it wasn't the problem so I only cleaned it a bit.

Ok,that looks clean and seeing as your temperatures arrent that high that may not be the problem.
You have some options if you want to compleetly rule it out:
-Do a furmark stability test on 4x AA and at your native resolution for 10 minutes while logging GPU temp.
-Get Prime 95 and run that also for 10 minutes to stress your CPU while HW monitor is running.
If both stay under 90 it should be fine.
Finally you can enter the bios and see what your computers T or TJ max is (Temp when its hard coded to shut down at)
If these all check out its probably something else.
Sorry for the late reply. Been kinda busy lately.
Well since this started happening when I installed the game "Dead Island" I decided to uninstall it. Though it still happens when playing L4D2.
Looks like my temp and dust may not be the issue.
Do you think it may be my PSU?
When playing other games like TF2 or Spiral Knights this NEVER happens. Maybe it's only games with advanced graphics?
PSU malfunction is a really rare issue in a laptop since thay are always designed to supply everything on full load.
They usually either work or dont not something in between. But lets not write that off.
If it is the PSU there is little you can do exept get a new one.
Hmm.
Well I'm just curious to why it only happens when I play certain games. As far as I know L4D2 and Dead Island.
Is it because they have high graphics?
It's just that I was thinking it may be my PSU or my laptop overheating. But if that's the case shouldn't it happen generally any time?
I mean it's not like my laptop thinks to itself "Hey this guy's playin L4D2 ... time to shutdown".
I leave my laptop on hours on end and it never shuts down on its own from overheating or anything.
EDIT:
Since I had a suspicion it was due to games which have high graphics, I decided to play "Battlefield Bad Company 2" ... and not surprisingly, my laptop it shutdown on its own again.
so far it hasn't happened while I play "Team Fortress 2" or "Spiral Knights" - maybe because their graphics aren't as advanced.
What do you think?
Seems like this only happens when I play games with high end Graphics.
Is your laptop a G73 by Asus? They tend to have an overheating problem in many of their models, I even experienced overheating in high graphic-intense games. I had the same processor as you as well.
