• Why Didn't Apple Release iOS5 for iPod 2G

I've always thought of this and I have a iPod 2G on 4.2.1 I think. Why didn't Apple decide to add iOS5 to iPod 2G?
It's old. That's why.
Apparently, they aren't happy with the performance of the device with it running. Its not particularly pretty running iOS4 at some points so I can see why.
I can probably agree with you. My iPod sometimes crashes and it doesn't work until it runs out if battery.
it would encourage people not to buy the latest model to get the latest features
Doesn't really bother me as I haven't noticed anything particularly special with iOS5 (I'm also using a Touch 2G). Wow, when I think about it I'm surprised that I've had it since December 2008 and it still works fine, and there's not even any cracking on the screen as well (seeing as everyone else I know who has a Touch or iPhone gets cracks after a while). Battery's great as well, especially with airplane mode on where it can last a week without charge (then again, without internet use or much app use).
Probably the same reason 99% of Android phones aren't getting Android 4.0
Probably the same reason 99% of Android phones aren't getting Android 4.0
Not officially. But when they "do" get 4.0, its always far more feature packed and faster than the real thing.

The wifi cuts out sometimes, and I got a lot of scratches on the back (funny because I always use a cover). Funny how it's still managed to outlast two pairs of earphones and a power cable as well anyways, and the actual performance is like it was straight out of the factory (I believe that it's actually even better as iOS4 brought along some performance enhancements I think). Nowadays I only ever use it as an alarm, to listen to music on the bus and train everyday and the occasional game when waiting somewhere and have no one to talk with.
apple support staff / customer service are usually pretty good to me imo. my iphone 4's home button failed me 3 weeks after my 1 year warranty expired and i tried to exchange it to try my luck anyway. told them i was a student and in a mobile applications course, and buying a new iphone would be a slight financial problem. they nodded and replaced my phone with a refurbished one on the spot with a 6 month warranty.
I've got a iPod touch 4G It has its fair amount of performance issues as well, and I barely use it too. Which is terrible because I bought it full price (32GB) not even a year ago. I remember using my 2G a whole loads. But what I really hate about the 4G is the fucking curved back. It's pretty, but if you don't hold it a certain way, using the volume buttons or sleep/wake is almost impossible.
i'm not happy with the performance of my iPod Touch 4th Generation running iOS5. It's so slow while unlocking and the "buy" and "install now" buttons on the app store are always fucking up.
My ipod touch has some nasty stability problems with 5.01 Want to open newsstand? FUCK YOU, I'LL CRASH IOS want to change the volume when playing temple run NOPE I'M A SLIDESHOW, NOT A GAME. thank you nonewsisgoodnews
IOS 5 is definitely fucking terrible. I had one with 4 and worked perfect.
ios5 is shit
A lot of these performance complaints seem to be from iPod touch users. So it suggests the issue is the amount of ram which is 256MB on the 4th gen touch compared to 512MB on the iP4/4S/iPad2, and 1GB on the new iPad. Perhaps Apple will find some way to reduce ram use in a future update such as iOS 5.2. I know spotlight search in the launcher seems to stutter the first time even on the 4S, but I never noticed it on the iPad 3 I played with, so ram is definitely an issue here that needs to be resolved.
The iPod has how much RAM? Thats pitiful.
the ipod 2g is terrible and they axed support for that generation of device after only 2 years, mobile processors took a huge leap forward with the 3gs and after they were barely able to get 4.0 working on them they just gave up due to how shit they were its so terrible that i wouldn't be suprised that people other than me went to android and were pleased with it not because android is actually good, but because of how truly awful the 2g was on ios4. you can't even downgrade too, except with a fairly new hacked firmware called whited00r (which owns)
I cant even stand looking at the 2g and 3g displays anyway
I cant even stand looking at the 2g and 3g displays anyway
The viewing angles on the 4g is pretty bad are as well.
I'd take a retina display with pisspoor viewing angles any day It's a 3.5 inch screen there's no excuse to have it tilted from your face anyway

Over the iPod 2g display, hell yeah, but over a slightly lower resolution with better viewing angles, no. If you take Apple's ecosystem into account, it would be dumb to have it any other way, though.
It doesn't turn yellow when you turn it slightly, that's a gross over-exaggeration.
It doesn't turn yellow when you turn it slightly, that's a gross over-exaggeration.
I find it very noticable, and I didn't really have any other word to use. In my experience it doesn't take much. No matter - my point is the same.
I've got my iPod right here and I don't notice discoloration unless I tilt the top of the device towards me. Otherwise it just darkens. The rate at which it darkens is pretty steep, but it's not enough to affect usability if you're, say, using it on a table top with the device to your left.
I've never had a problem with the viewing angles on my 4G.

It sounds like an Android user using the iPod touch's performance issues as an excuse to say that iOS is bad. Most likely Android would have the same issues with the same spec

And Android DOES have performance issues with that same type of processor (ARM11) and that low of RAM. Trust me, I had both. And both would hose the OS if loading a web page with too many images.
