It seems like my buffalo 1tb HDD has a driver problem, since it randomly stopped giving me access to all the data on the HDD.
When I pissed about in the device management menu, it told me, that drivers are up to date and I can't roll back. I can't make a system restore either, due to me being a stupid fuck and not creating any restore points.
So now when I try to reinstall the drivers via the driver disk ISO I got with the HDD it still wants me to reformat the disc.
Is there any way to keep my files and get the HDD working again?

Oh, and it's an external HDD.
Sounds like the hard drive might be dying or boot table is corrupt.
There was a program I used a while ago to recover the boot table info, fixed the drive :)
It can't be dying, it's brand new, a month or so old. I'm off to look for the boot table recoverer
All hard drives ship with a certain amount of errors. In the old days they were written on the drive itself and you had to manually configure it not to use it. Now the drives compensates for it automatically.
Try getting a programme called Spinrite, it's not free but it may help you.

It doesn't matter if the drive is brand new or 5 years old, it can die at any time. If you don't care about the warranty, you can open the drive case up and take the drive out and directly connect it to the IDE/SATA connector on your computer and see if it can be read.
If that doesn't work, the drive is likely dead. The only way to recover a dead drive is to send it to one of those firms that recover data from dead drives, but it can be extremely expensive, often times starting at $500 and up.
