Alright so I felt comfortable in my ability to do this a few years ago but since everythings started coming out faster and faster and I had no need to upgrade I completely lost the ability to do it. I went through basic training, and now I'm in tech school and I need a new computer, but I have no idea what's good anymore. I feel like I'll rip myself off. Anyways, I'm just looking for a build that's around a 700 dollar price range. I'd like it to be less but more would mean I have to wait till the 15th for my next payday.
I don't have a harddrive or an optical drive. I need an operating system (Could someone suggest one? Well, pick XP Pro for free or should I get Windows 7?) but I don't want that included in the price cause if all else fails I can use XP pro. Also, I will be using a TV for my Monitor, I have a mouse and will be able to buy a keyboard on my own. If there's anything I missed please ask.
Help is much appreciated.

So you basically need the whole computer?

Yes.. I was just trying to be as helpful as I could but yes I do need a whole new computer. My old one is at home and it's not worth sending to my base since I'd have to upgrade it almost completely. Not even the case is worth keeping.. so I'm trying to build one from scratch.

It's a going to be a gaming computer. Thank you for posting your build, I'm currently on duty (Air Force :D) and I'm on a quick break so I came to check the replies. If anyone else would like to reply please do.
Also, ghostofme, if you were to upgrade a part or two in your build what would you upgrade? (In the event my budget allows me to get a better part or two.. I'd like to know what would be another step up :D)
I would get this GPU and overclock: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125300
And upgrade to this CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103808
:)
Good choice ghostofme :D
Thanks.
Pleasure :)
Would this be a slightly better CPU to get?

No. That's a dual-core. The one I posted is a Quad-core.
Quad > Dual.
Hm. Ok. I was just trying to find one better then the first build but cheaper then the one in the post where you suggested an upgrade. Maybe I'll try to borrow some money for it. Thanks you your help!

The Quad-core I posted is the best AMD CPU you can get right now. (The 965 is the same thing with a higher clock and not worth the extra money IMO.)
I'd like to thank you for that build, too. In the event that any of my friends want an affordable custom PC, I'll know what to show them.
Is there a nVidia board that you'd suggest? I'm not trying to be picky, or bother you, I'm just kinda relearning what's good and bad.
