Options for Heroin Addicts to Avoid Withdrawals? [URGENT]

Just as the title says. A very close friend of mine has always told me that if they were ever to run out of money to reup and get dope that they would just kill themselves because their withdrawals would be so severe this time around because of the their increased use of the drug. Being their friend I obviously don't want this to happen so I was wondering what options are available to addicts who want to quit using all together? Could they schedule a doctors appointment and tell their doctor what's going on and get Methadone, Buprenorphine or Suboxone?
Any information helps. I just hope I can find something before it's too late.
Get him to go to a Treatment Center. They can help him through it.

You won't get methodone from a doctor, you have to sign up for a state program or a treatment center for that. I don't know about the others.
Really, it's treatment or bust. I volunteered for a summer in a methadone clinic. It's not something you can just get a prescription for. You also need to remember that because substance abuse isn't a disease or sickness, a doctor can't do much about it. Either he or she needs to ween himself or herself off of it, or they need to seek treatment, else they'll have to go through the withdrawals.
That's the sad reality of it.

Actually I know someone who gets liquid methadone from a clinic once a week and I found Suboxone clinics. Found out that doctors can prescribe Suboxone films from their office. Just have to get this person to make the appointment.
