• What GPU (or upgrade in general) should I get?

Long story short, my rig isn't really keeping up with some games anymore (Just Cause 3 on low with 50FPS and stutters, Forza Horizon 3 on capped 30) so I want to upgrade something, just don't know what exactly. Probably the GPU since 3GB VRAM isn't gonna cut it anymore I feel, but here's my specs. Current GPU is an XFX 280x Black Edition. Budget is not really specified yet (i'll upgrade in a few months. I know a lot can happen in that time but I want a general target of what to save up for) but it's probably gonna be around 300, 400 euros. Thanks in advance!
Either wait for Vega or get a 1060/1070. 1050 is also good if you're on a budget
The RX480 is a solid card (get the 8gb vram version) and cheap, too. It costs 220 euro here. Alternatively you could get a GTX 1060, 2gb less vram but outperforms the RX480. Slightly more expensive but still within your budget (~340 euros here) Edit: Right, waiting for Vega could be a good choice, too. Especially if you're only upgrading in a few months.
Yeah I was eyeing the RX480 too, the MSI 8GB one in particular. Haven't really heard anything about the Vega before, waiting is a good idea in general right? Like, even if it launches above my budget other cards would still be dropping in price? The 1060 does look rather interesting (60fps in The Witcher 3 on Ultra whereas I can only get like 30 on Low) but that also makes me think my CPU might be holding back too. Will my 3470 work well with my 1060? Hell, I could even stretch to an MSI 1070 (only 442) if it's a big difference.

(not an expert on cpu's at all, so please correct me if wrong). I would either get the rx480 or 1060. Anything above that, I'd upgrade my CPU too (New AMD line, Ryzen, is good and much cheaper than intels, but you'd need a new mobo).
In my honest opinion, I'd say wait for Vega and see what that lineup brings, the RX480 is a nice card but it's currently AMDs budget card, its in line with the 1050 and 1060 while Vega will be bringing out the mid and top end. Also with your current CPU, you likely wont be seeing the boost you want so I'd honestly recommend looking at a Ryzen 7 bundle (1700) and putting a card on top of that, or if you feel like waiting a bit more and see what Ryzen 5 brings which is their more mainline cpu range. You can currently get some pretty good deals on Ryzen 7 bundles (cpu motherboard and memory) for about 200 euros but they mostly tack in the budget boards which won't be great for overclocking, and for the 1700 you want to ideally be overclocking that chip. Your call, I'd personally wait a bit for Vega, see what it brings and then act, plus if you can find anymore spending money to throw into the upgrade pot, the better. Time is pretty much on your side for this if you feel like you can wait.
i5-3570 owner, can confirm that Ivy Bridge may be reaching it's 'end' in gaming it's a capable series in many cases but if you're looking for anything beyond a 1070 you may be looking at a bottleneck now (even if the performance is better, seems like a waste to go that route and I'm not sure how trusty going 1070 would be either way), Reagy's recommendation sounds like the most sane one in this situation as I'm planning to almost do the same thing (full mobo, gpu and cpu replacement)
Getting a new mobo is probably a good idea for me anyway, my current mobo has some issues. Sometimes it thinks my ethernet cable is disconnected and if I replug it my keyboard and mouse stop working, probably some electric fault in the mobo. By the time I get a motherboard + CPU, Vega will probably have launched by that time. Can't really find any bundles though. An Asus PRIME B350-PLUS with a Ryzen 7 1700 would be a combined 472,90. That a good combo?
The B350 is fine, but I found it wasn't the best in terms of overclocking compared to the X370 chipset.
Wasn't planning on overclocking tbh, it's nice to have it as an option just in case but not really on my list [editline]26th March 2017[/editline]
Personally I'd wait for the R5 line up to launch, the 6-core 1600 looks very promising, and is over a hundred dollars cheaper than the 1700.
Have to wait around three months more before I even have the money, by then the 1600 is probably out. Does look promising, yeah [editline]26th March 2017[/editline] Also how is the i7 7700k?
Cool, we have nearly the same rig. What's this Vega everyone keeps mentioning?
The 7700k is the top gaming CPU right now, the only downsides are that it's 4c/8t and to get the most out of it you'll need to overclock.
I don't understand a whole lot of CPUs but 4 cores isn't a huge downside for gaming right? I remember a lot of games not supporting more cores properly. Would the MSI B250 PC Mate motherboard be good for ~96 euros with the 7700k? Again, overclocking is a nice option but i'm not really planning on it

If you don't plan on overclocking, just get a non-K part. You can get an i7-6700 for $299 vs $339 for a 6700k or $349 for a 7700k. So you'd basically be paying $140 for a feature that you wouldn't be able to use.

Would the base i7 7700 still be a good choice? [editline]26th March 2017[/editline] Especially v. a Ryzen 1600 or 1700
I thought i read that Vega wasnt coming out this year? Just upgraded 500 series.
I would kinda like to overclock sometime but yeah I don't know if i'd want to pay extra for a k-processor and a motherboard that supports it

[editline]26th March 2017[/editline] Especially v. a Ryzen 1600 or 1700
The 6700/7700 would perform similarly to a Ryzen 1700x in games, but the AMD part is a $200 price premium over the former two. The only reason you'd need a Ryzen is if you were one of those game streamers or you had some super heavily threaded workload that needed 16 threads.
So i've been looking but I just want to know for sure that: - My current XFX 280x Black Edition and my Asus Xonar DGX soundcard will fit on the new MSI B250 PC Mate motherboard - If a 1060/1070 would fit on the MSI B250 PC Mate - If it all would fit in my case (Sharkoon T9) - If my Corsair CX600 PSU would be enough for the MSI B250 PC Mate, i7 7700 and at most a 1070. I know it's a lot but I overlook things easily and don't want to spend hundreds before I realize it doesn't even fit in my case or whatever. I've already looked and everything seems fine but the PSU i'm extra not sure about.
