• Which CPU would be more suitable for my needs?

I'm building my new PC and I have the choice of either the Athlon X2 215 (@ 2.7ghz), or the Core 2 Duo E5200 (@ 2.5ghz). Just so you know, this is what they'll be put towards... Medium to high intensity gaming (L4D2, TF2 and Penumbra), video rendering in Sony Vegas, and mapping in Hammer. So which of the two would be better for what I need?
So you can't pick any other CPU, and what is your motherboard? Anyway, I would go with the Core 2 Duo.
On the offhand I would say the Athlon, but really it depends on what GPU you have. Vegas is getting more and more parallel hungry as updates come out.
I'd go with the AMD. Clock speed is king for dual core, especially at the entry level. Plus it'll work with DDR3 memory, which your 775 might not include. DDR3 is better for having a future upgrade path.
