• Need help with a wireless network.

Hey guys, i figure this is the best place to come with this. I want to get your opinions on what you think is the best program to set up and maintain a good wireless network. I live with my girlfriend and her friend, and my computer is running wireless off the network from our previous place, but for some reason my girlfriend's computer, and her friend's refuse to connect. I want something that can set up a network, and that's pretty easy to use, i'm not exactly the first person you would go to for network problems so that's a big hump for me to get over. Anyway, if there's some program that will let me easily set up, password and maintain a wireless server i would love to hear about it. Thanks for your help guys.
As far as I know, there's no real 'software' for that. there is too much varying hardware out there, so generally you have 'firmware' specific to your router. I don't know of any real custom router/modem firmware. Your best bet is to read the documentation that came with your router/modem and to have your ISP tech support walk you through the setup process. If you could give us more specific information regarding why they can't connect we might be able to help you further diagnose the issue with your current setup.

I'm not really sure what's going on with it. There's a newtwork called "lost canyon" that her computer (which i'm on now) would connect to, but it wouldn't connect to the network i have set up in the house that my computer is running off of. Now all of the sudden it's connected to our network, but i'm not sure that it will stay. I'll go upstairs in a second and grab some modem/router info real quick. :edit: Okay, so it's running on a Belkin Wireless G Router 2.4Ghz-802.11g And the internet's coming through some crap motorola thing that Mediacom gave us. Any ideas?
First, how was your Belkin router configured? did you do it? or did your ISP do it? If it was left with all the default settings, it is likely someone locked you out of your own internet using the default admin password. (I know because I have done this to people before, its fixable but they have to reset their router to factory defaults) If you did it, it is likely you may not have something setup right, if your isp did it, then sounds like you just don't know the security settings to connect to it. Can you even see your network as a network to connect to? If you can, does it prompt you for a encryption / passkey?
I can see it and everything. I think the issue may have been the software for her Wireless receiver. I turned off the software for that and just used the windows wireless connections thing and everything seems to be okay so far. I guess we'll see if it sticks. Thanks for all the help though.
