• Need New Monitor

I'm tired of having a single 1600x900 monitor, so I want to upgrade and keep this monitor for offhand work. Should I get: 1920x1200 1920x1080 120hz OR 1920x1080 60hz ips panel My GPU is a GTX 780
I'm considering getting an Asus ROG Swift. 2560x1440 144Hz monitor.

Get a Perfect Pixel Catleap 1440p monitor off of eBay if you want high resolution and high refresh rates for cheap prices, they can usually be OC'd to at minimum 97Hz and usually more like 120Hz. Alternately the cheaper DP2710 / QX2710 models are also nice (I own a DP2710 1440p @ 97Hz), but the rest just comes down to preference. 120Hz panels are if you play twitch-shooting FPSes for the fluidity, and IPS panels are nice if you work with graphics and need better colors.

All you get from IPS is better viewing angles. The reason they're known for better color is because they've traditionally been marketed at professionals who needed both better color and viewing angles. The 6bit eIPS panels you see in the $150 range don't do color or gradation any better than their TN competition. In the case of the Korean monitors you do get real 8bit color depth which is good for gradients but beyond that you can't certainly say they'll be better for color since they're completely uncalibrated panels. [editline]6th July 2014[/editline] Nonetheless I still agree with fishyfish that if you want high refresh rate 2560x1440 it's better to buy a Korean panel because they're substantially cheaper. That ROG monitor is in the same price territory as the 3840x2160 Dell UP2414Q which is ridiculous.
