I don't drink, I don't smoke and I don't do drugs.

Alright Facepunch, here's the deal. I'm 19 years old. I don't drink, I don't smoke, I don’t do drugs and I never had the urge to do so. I hear other guys (and gals) complaining about how the drinking age should be lowered and how cool it is to smoke and how liberating drugs are but I don't care in the slightest about any of those things. I've been called a lot of things for my behavior, among them "goody-goody," "pussy," "scaredy cat," and (my personal favorite for an unknown reason) "Quaker."I'm not afraid of getting caught or getting into some kind of accident. I hold no resentment towards those who choose to do any of the things that I have no interest in doing, but the question is:
Why do most people that drink/smoke/take drugs hold such negative feelings towards those that don't?
If FP wants to answer please include whether or not you do drink/smoke/do drugs.
(For reference I drank and smoked before, I just choose not to do it and have never done it again, respectively.)
You're like me, then.
Drinking is the only fun thing to do.
i agree. i have no problem with those who do, hell a large group of my friends do weed, but people hate me because i dont do drugs wtf
They hold negative feelings to look like douchebags. If anyone asks me if I do it, I just say "Oh I would, but my dad did all that shit, and he'd kick my ass to fucking Calcutta and back if he found out." Which he did, and he will

McBurgerKing, your avatar contradicts your post.
smoker/occasional drinker here.
I don't think people that don't smoke or drink are dumb or anything, but when somebody tries to act wise and starts going on about how "that shit's gonna kill you you know :colbert:", then it starts to kinda bother me.
I can respect someone who doesn't want to partake in those activities, aslong as they aren't judging me for doing it myself.
I don't drink, I don't smoke, and above all, I don't even say bad words in real life!
If anything, I get respect because of that.
My brother, who was/is a drinker and pot smoker asked me why I don't do anything like that and I told him I have no interest in things like that. He replied, "How can you not have an interest in something you've never done?"
I wasn't sure how to respond to that. I thought it was a stupid question.
I drink in social situations. Being sober when everyone else is drunk is just depressing.

maybe the drinks are getting to him
and i dont smoke or drink or do drugs and i dont cuss because i dont wanna burn in hellfire for all eternity
I hold no grudge against anyone who doesnt choose to partake in those activities. I drink on a social level, but when a "purist" starts lecturing me or act like he is better than me, then thats where problems start.
I don't drink/smoke/do drugs either (and I'm 19, what a coincidence).
I don't really get too much shit for it, a lot of people say they respect me, but then again a lot of other people don't understand and think I'm kind of weird for it -- especially when I say I don't plan on drinking after I'm 21.
But hey, you're never alone. Those sober ones are a bit rare, but they are there.
I don't drink or do drugs more for medical reasons.
I have no self-control. If I were to start something, it would likely kill me quickly. Better not to start.
you should smoke and drink, the first smoke of the day is the best feeling ever and being drunk is fun sometimes
Personally, I've never understood why people wouldn't want to try these things. But that might just be because I am a fun loving person who likes to know what's fun and what isn't. And intoxication is such a major source of fun. To miss out on it is to miss out on some of the best opportunities for limitless hedonism on the planet.
I love to have fun, but I don't need that stuff to do it. When I tell people that I'm completely clean, I tell them confidently and they always seem to be chill with it. I have no problem with being clean and it's not because I'm a pussy either, I just choose to be different.
But have you tried drinking?
I don't either, I think it's dumb. I'd rather spend my time being productive or if I'm being lazy then just playing S.T.A.L.K.E.R. or some other awesome game until I get too tired.
:v:
I have no desire to smoke. Being around smokers make my allergies go haywire. Done a little drinking, but don't do it that much. Haven't done illegal drugs due to always being on prescription medication.
Most people I've been around don't don't smoke/drink/do drugs either have a goody two shoes or better than you attitude.
I don't drink because I don't like the taste of alcohol. I don't smoke because it's bad for the lungs. And I don't do drugs because I don't want one more thing to get addicted to.
Although, do I care that everyone else does that stuff? Not really.
When you guys are saying smoke are you talking about tobacco or weed?
I don't do any of those, and I don't plan on doing any of them in my life except for having some scotch around a pool table.
And I would have to say its because I want to be productive with my life rather than waste my time doing something illegal or something that would kill me.

I drink a bit, smoke a bit, and smoke a lot of pot. I don't think negatively of who don't do what I do unless they think negatively of me. If there's one thing that pisses off people who drink and such, it's an annoying person preaching sobriety and what they think is right.
I don't drink because I have a really high tolerance. It's been hereditary, both my dad and my grandfather and so on have all been able to drink a lot and not get drunk, or even buzzed.
When you guys are saying smoke are you talking about tobacco or weed?
I assumed smoking as in tobacco and drugs as in weed and others.

I don't know, I'd find that a pretty easy question to respond to:
"Would you like to shoot yourself in the foot with a hunting rifle?"
:v:
Anyways, I'm, as with others here, like the OP. I'm simply not interested.

Personally, I don't approve of drinking, simply because I don't understand the logic to it.
Apart from the obvious damage to your liver, the fact that the people are all too aware of the massive hangover they're going to have, and yet they do it anyways, still confounds me.
I don't go preaching it to others, though. I just kind of shake my head and tsk to myself. Also, how long has Facepunch had support for ctrl-I and ctrl-B? :v:
Some people are just idiots. Some just want you to try new things.
Also take into consideration how you act and portray people who do what you do not.

Same stance.
I personally wouldn't do it, but I sure as hell I would be see seen as a complete douchewad if I walked into a party, saw weed/beer/etc. and walked out with everyone knowing why.
Which is exactly what I'm supposed to do, according to my school's leadership program.
