So I was browsing a reddit image sub section (yes I know), and I saw a gif link from i.minus.com, which seems to be common around image sub sections.
I clicked it, and it automatically downloaded the gif onto my computer. Usually when I click a gif it just opens in another tab, so I found this suspicious. Should I be worried about this? I don't notice anything different or anything.
I don't have any virus protection besides Windows Defender by the way.
EDIT: Also scanned it on virus total, 0/42 detection ratio. Does this mean it's safe?
Install Avast! (free). Any known and obvious threats will be detected with that.

Depending on what browser you use (I can't see it from Facepunch, because it doesn't work for the first post in threads), I may have an explanation for this.
Some servers are misconfigured (or just derped out for a moment) and will prompt you to download the image, rather than simply serving it (which would open it in a tab).
And I believe most browsers are by default also configured to not prompt for a download location and automatically download to your Downloads folder.
It doesn't explain why it didn't ask whether you wanted to open or save the file, if this was indeed the case, but you might simply have accidentally pressed Enter or something.

Live by this saying. It will take you far in the land of the internets.
Being paranoid as fuck about the web is certainly not a bad thing.

Uh, do you mean you scanned 42 files, and none of them were infected?
Get avast, it's free, stays out of your way, and scans everything you touch for you.

0/42 means out of the 42 scanners on virustotal, none (0) found anything malicious. Have you never used virustotal? It's really awesome.

It's awesome when it works. However it has a habit of just dropping my stuff.
