• A question about the AR-15 lineup of firearms

Hello facepunch. I can't be bothered to post this in the firearms thread (if it even can be found anymore) since it would be a good while till it would be answered. Anyway, my question: I recently got into firing the AR-15. Very comfortable rifle when the stock and everything else is adjusted, very manageable recoil, great rifle altogether. My dilemma is that aside from knowing how to line up ironsights and pull a trigger, I have virtually no dependable education in the world of firearms. Not that I never liked them, it's just that my family has been very biased against them and never could teach me anything about them hands-on. So I finally went shooting with my Air Force buddy after scrapping some money together. I enjoyed it very much, developed a serious respect for it, and know that I want to move further into the world of firearms. I would like to learn a great deal about the AR-15. I understand there are a large sum of laws, codes, specifications, etc to go along with buying laws, what you can and can't fit to it, what parts change the classification of this that etc... But is there a book or web site (preferably both) that can take all these very important pieces of information and put them into plain english, which would be very easy to read and understand for someone who does not know a great deal about rifles or firearms? I am 20 now, so I am starting a bit late. I hope that I can learn enough to dive deep into the sport, hobby, and lifestyle of owning, using, and respecting firearms. I hope I can learn in a short period of time so that I can also teach my kids a thing or two. This is 50/50 about the AR-15, and 50/50 about firearms in general. Give me as many sources as you feel necessary, but please try to suggest things that can be easily understood by a beginner.
I don't know much, so this might help me as well
Try contacting local "gun experts." Maybe there are a few employees of a gun store, shooting range, or gun club that are knowledgeable about the AR-15 platform.

I was going to do this the other day at the range, but aside from all the employees running around doing repair services on firearms, I thought I would come to facepunch and find out regardless. For good reason, too. If say, ten of you went and got an opinion from a shooting shop on this before, every shop owner may have recommended something different. So, I rather hear several sets of recommendations rather than just one or two from my local shooting range.
I got my shit from a clause and my grandfather :v: They're not registered, and I'm not licensed. Not the best equation, but just as long as they don't leave New York everything is fine. I know these rifles and shotguns in and out. I just don't know the legal side.
You can't really fit that big of a criteria into one book or article. There is a whole world of guns out there. Just look at firearm forums and sites, mainly. The way I learned about guns in the past, would be to look up a gun that you have no idea about. You go to a Wiki page, find out it's a falling block rifle. You look up what a falling block is, and so on.

It doesn't have to all be in one book, it can be as many as necessary. I'm just looking for some nice finds book wise that can be understood from the get-go by a true beginner, an "alien" to the subject if you will.
