I'm clueless about the actual GPU market (meaningless numbers, etc), and I just needed some help in terms of making a choice for a new GPU to replace the integrated Intel graphics.
Specs:
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-3330 CPU @ 3.00GHz
GPU: Intel(R) HD Graphics 2500
RAM: 8GB
64-Bit Windows 7
PSU I think is 300W, (I opened it up and that's what it says somewhere) and I have a standard PSI Express slot and one of the smaller PSI extra slots or something.
My budget is about $200 NZD(+- $50) and I was looking at this but I'm very open to suggestions.
I mostly play fairly easy to run games, but the worry of lack of FPS is the reason I don't play more recent games.
Thanks in advance
What is the exact make and model of your PC?
There is a very high chance that you will also need to replace that PSU, to prevent it from blowing up and taking your pc components with it.
I believe it's this.
It was a gift, so I am making some assumptions (i.e. hasn't been altered), but the specs on the website for this model fit mine.
There's nothing in the next slot, so I think it would fit, but it says it has a 400W power requirement, but the website says "80 Plus 300W power supply". That means it'll hate me if I plug it in right? /clueless
It sounds perfect though, like exactly what I'm looking for in terms of performance that's within budget.
Thanks a bunch guys, I'll order this ASAP! Once I install, just in case, is there anything I should watch out for to prevent my computer dying?
Uhhh I'm pretty sure you're gonna need a new power supply. The psu in your computer, assuming its the one you posted is a 300watt psu, while that gtx750 is asking for 400watts minimum.
If you can wait a few months the gtx960 should be out too. No big deal if you don't want to wait though.

I have a 1000watt psu, but my system draws probably around 7-800watts

There's no way he'll use more than 300W with a 750, the non-overclocked cards shouldn't surpass 60W. They always recommend high wattages because of shit-tier PSU's coupled with high-wattage processors/lots of extra components, so if his PSU is truly 80 Bronze it'll be fine.

Be careful for static while installing it, don't use vacuum cleaners for that exact reason, don't stab things with a screwdriver, the usual stuff. There's very little you can do to mess up a computer if you're careful.
You'll have to install nvidia drivers off of their website to use the card properly. Don't use the drivers on the included disc, since they're slower and often buggy.
60+ FPS full graphics is beautiful.
Is it normal for it to take considerably longer to boot with a new card?
It used to take under a minute, now it seems to wait at boot for a while, so its closer to two or three minutes in total.
Its not that much of a problem, I'd gladly trade it for the beauty of max settings anyday
Is it an immediate problem, or can I leave it? It just sits at the screen where you can go to BIOS from (can't remember name) for a little bit, then works fine.
If anything it'll probably vastly shorten the lifespan of your psu. I can't say how long though. Personally, I'd get a better psu. You usually want some overhead on the maximum output.
That may be an issue. :P
Actually silverstone makes sff psu's. As long as it's not a horrible proprietary psu you could get one of those.
When playing a game (AKA heavy load) everything works normal?
The majority I see is yes silverstone but it's still at the 300W mark and it isn't any powerful
Go on ebay you'll find better but import costs will cost a bomb in NZ so at any rate it might be cheaper to take those components out and throw it into a matx case + a better psu at this rate.
Theres a 500watt sff silverstone on newegg

Everything's fine (but so far I've only tested a few games, Contagion, dota 2, on max everything)
So what's the consensus on this PSU? Is there a workaround (like not putting much strain on it or something) that I can do for a while?
