Just got a new laptop, is this noise normal? It makes this grinding noise whenever the HDD light comes on, it's hard to pick it up on camera but is slightly more audible irl. 0:40 it is most audible.
I can't find any evidence that this sort of noise is common with HDD's which is why i'm worried, can you elaborate a bit more into it?
Yeah I was thinking that, but I wanted to make sure incase it was the HDD writing errors/failing or some other issue with the hardware. My gaming PC's HDD makes a similar noise but is deeper and only highly audible when the HDD is under heavy load.
It's normal, but if you want to make absolutely sure it's not faulty from the start you can download one of the many free S.M.A.R.T. monitoring programs and check the error count, etc. "Reallocated sector count" is the value you should worry about the most, if it's anything above 0 and the laptop is new you should probably get it replaced.
Don't worry too much about it, my old laptop had a drive like this as well which made noises like this. It sounds perfectly normal to me.
Have you never used a computer before or what? This is totally normal.
