I don't think the FC3 writer's have a say in writing art when their action game was apparently about misogyny somehow

The writers of spec ops and far cry 3 discussing art when they can't make their plots even good.
Also, the shocking thing is that a lot of people who were most upset by the game, they never once suggested that they could have turned it off and done something else. I find that fascinating. They’ll say, “There’s no choice! You just have to go through this.” You could just stop playing. That never occurs to them, I think, and that, again, is the addiction thing. But, I mean, we have the power to say “no.”
Yes, thank you, I did that. I couldn't keep playing Spec ops much longer than the MW 2 singleplayer.
The writers of spec ops and far cry 3 discussing art when they can't make their plots even good.
I have to disagree with you on Spec Ops there. I cared very much about the characters throughout the game, and whilst the events in the game weren't as shocking as I had expected because most everyone I had asked said that it was somewhat haunting when it was not to me. I have to say [sp]the final chapter of Spec Ops was spectacular and the multiple endings wrapped up the story nicely (depending on which one you picked of course).[/sp] Far Cry 3, I can't say much about as I have yet to play through and finish the game.
uhh how or are you being sarcastic
The main writer commented that by picking a certain ending you were misogynistic. Honestly it sounded like he had no idea what he had written.
It just seems so bizarre to have an interview with the writer behind Spec Ops: The Line, which had a lot of planning and careful crafting behind it, and then the writer behind Far Cry 3 who wrote a shitty generic plot except oh wait I guess that's on purpose and also I'm a misogynist somehow-thing
The main writer commented that by picking a certain ending you were misogynistic. Honestly it sounded like he had no idea what he had written.
The bad ending is clearly misogynistic, but it kind of fails in direction. You kill a woman then have a crazy whacked-out power fantasy where a different chick tells you how powerful you are while you fuck. Problem is the ending doesn't convey that. It turns into a simple choice for the player that has nothing to do with it. It's pretty much "Win the game and be a warrior, or don't." That said, Brody is a dick. He regularly ignores women and keeps living his power-fantasy. Liza tries to talk to Brody multiple times. Each time he shrugs her off, getting increasingly aggressive to fulfill his own desires. ("Not now Liza", "Stop making this about us", "I have to do this", "This isn't about you", etc.) Brody is a somewhat racist, dumb, and misogynistic macho dudebro. He's not the most reliable narrator and the story is from his point of view. It feels to me like it's filled with every trope for a reason. [sp]Of course it could just be that bad. Justification is thin but makes sense to me, anyway,[/sp] :v:

Him lashing out at Liza looked like he was suffering from killing a bunch of people and was going crazy, which was a big theme of the game. How as the ending misogynistic? The bad end just showed that Bordy had gone full on crazy rather then see what he has become.

The bad end is about giving in to temptation, to power and going native. It is a power fantasy but in the purest sense of gaining power for yourself rather than pretending every power fantasy has to be men over women. In the bad end he gives in and loses himself along with everything else, in the good end he resists and despite being changed he goes on, it's the bad end for a reason. Everyone's entitled to their own interpretation of works but claiming they did the bad end wrong because it doesn't convey the misogynist message you thought it should is up there with racist interpretations of American History X. As for Jason, I'd think the huge amounts of hallucinogens would contribute more to him being an unreliable narrator than trying to claim he's a stereotype of the people you don't like regardless of reality.

I'm only saying that it's a part of the ending conflict as there is some of it within the main character. And what huge amounts of hallucinogens? You only get drugged up like four times in scripted sequences. Not the whole game.

the writing in farcry 3 was pretty lame though i only kept playing because the gameplay was good but [sp]the story just took an absolutely massive turn for the worse when vaas died, the second island as a whole was just a lot less interesting, not to mention both the endings are pretty stupid[/sp]

funny coming from these guys, both games had awful stories and held your hand the whole way
funny coming from these guys, both games had awful stories and held your hand the whole way
b-b-b-but...you could've just stopped playing the $60 game you bought and put down the controller! I-i-it's too deep for you...!
funny coming from these guys, both games had awful stories and held your hand the whole way
I agree wholeheartedly on Far Cry 3, but I still think Spec Ops had a good story. And how can you really tell a story without holding the audience's hand? That's how stories work, you need a tight focus on what the writers want to show, hence why you didnt spend 30 minutes watching Mark Zuckerberg knocking back espressos late at night while working on Facebook in Social Network
