Spybot works well.
my tech support guy advised me about anti spyware free edition. it searches your whole laptop for viruses spyware etc.
Personally, I think the best way to deal with any malware or virus is to use the services offered by one of the many free computer support forums.
Follow the instructions in the link below and a trained analyst will check your logs, help you sort it out for free and give you advice on keeping your computer clean in the future
If you cannot complete any of the steps, let the analyst know and he will advise you what to do next.

SuperAntiSpyware
UPDATE the virus has changed its name to XP AntiMalware 2010. it has been a pain to try an get on the Internet, whenever i search something and click a link it takes me to another fake spyware/ dangerous site. I have done a system recover and i just got Malwarebytes searched over 38,000 files and still has not found this program. I have done some research and this is a very smart virus, when it stays on a computer it can block access to your anti virus software, this one in particular made it so that my system could not read .exe files, but i fixed that.
sybot S&D

I hear it's great but the name just sounds like one of those fake ones that's actually a virus.
Spybot Search and Destroy.
Spybot S&D is simple and is updated frequently.
another UPDATE
I am not using malwarebyte anymore, now i am using PC Tools Spyware Doctor. Got the idea from a how to remove XP AntiMalware 2010 website, and i have to say this works 15X faster then malwarebytes. PC Tools Spyware Doctor has found 40 threats and 740 infections. More then Malwarebytes ever found. But is it safe? just want to make sure.
The name sounds like a virus. :V

That's what i thought too but did some checking and this looks pretty real, all the viruses are actually in my system, not like how XP AntiMalware 2010 uses actual files and then puts in fake ones
Spyware Doctor is a real one.
SuperAntiSpyware and AVG have kept me free of malware for about 8 months now (knock on wood)
MalwareBytes. Just boot into safe mode and run it.
