I really really really hope this entire game isn't set in the same setting we keep seeing over and over.
"I'm Sam Fisher"
No you're not, fuck off Ubisoft.

That isn't in reference to the gameplay, it's in reference to how they got a fucking 20 year old to replace Michael Ironside's 50 year old Sam Fisher. This is a sequel to Conviction, yet he looks and sounds younger and appears to be more agile than he was in the first 4 games.
It's so painful to hear Sam (not even as Michael Ironside) blabber that awful dialogue and DO WHATEVER WE MUST TO PROTECT OUR COUNTRY. Even if gameplay-wise it's not a consolized, streamlined piece of shit, it's still a given the writing will be awful. SC is dead 4 me.

What happened Sam?

Why couldn't they have just made a different character. The way Conviction ended made it seem like Fisher was too old for this shit anyway.
I'm still looking forward to the game but unfortunately this trailer makes it look like it should really be a new protagonist. The dialog is really cheesy and edgy. The only reason why I still want to play it is because the gameplay looks like they are mixing gameplay of the older games and Conviction. And yeah, they should really show some new gameplay demos in a new environment. So far they only released this image.

On side note, I'm pretty annoyed that what appears to be the old school suit is now a pre-order bonus.
Gahhh that voice actor
I wonder if anyone is voiced by the same person? The president sounded different...couldn't tell about Grim. The blood at the end there looked pretty cool though
Should have had Sam retire after the Third Echelon conspiracy, led the new unit but had another guy do the missions.
Just as an improvement.

I don't think they are dead, and they weren't Archer and Kestrel.
[editline]26th September 2012[/editline]
I'd love to see One and Two return. Hell, at least that would explain why the main character is younger, more agile, and more prone to getting in to stupidly massive gun fights.
and they weren't Archer and Kestrel.

[sp] They're also dead [/sp] And seeing as the game is going forward...
Looked up some screenshots...Fisher looks younger...Grim doesn't have freckles and looks younger...
The fuck are they doing with this game?
[sp] They're also dead [/sp] And seeing as the game is going forward...
Yeah, at the end of Conviction's Coop, I know. I was saying that in case anyone tried to make a connection between the two pairs. As far as I can tell, One and Two should still be alive somewhere.
I think they were just scared that people would abandon the franchise if Sam wasn't the protagonist and it pisses me off the most. I'd love if Sam was new Lambert, him and Grim could have great dialog. Just like old times. The old fans would understand that the new young agent decides to go rambo from time to time. So far I was sold only on the gameplay and waited for any news on the story and Eric Johnson. Unfortunately he really sounds too young for Sam and the way they seem to direct him feels like Sam forgot most of his experience. As for story, the basic idea fits SC game but I don't like how Ubisoft advertises it. Same thing about their twitter, whoever writes those posts is maybe too much enthusiastic.
MUH FREEDOMS

To play devils advocate, the public backlash against released Blacklist material, as well as the divided thoughts over Conviction, probably made them afraid to cast anyone else as the lead role in a Splinter Cell game other than Sam. I can see it now, angry forum posts and hatemail talking about how it's "just another third person action game" without the main character returning. With todays gaming audience it's damned if you do, damned if you don't.
Still really bizarre to see a 50 year old man shimmying around the place with a voice of a 23 year old.

People say this for every serie that changes for the worse, everyone would be happy if they just MADE A GOOD GAME.
You really don't think there would be any backlash against them removing Sam entirely? If it was just a new guy? I think that's what they should have done personally but they probably looked at this as a cost-benefit analysis and figured Sam Fisher with a new voice is better than no Fisher at all.

Judging by the reaction of fans though it would have been more beneficial to have Sam take the back seat to another character. It really is the next stage in his development as a character. After years of hard work and hardship, Sam finally gets to rest and usher in a new generation that follows in his footsteps. And with this new character, you can feature his growth from a rookie agent to a full fledged Splinter Cell. That's a much better story than "Sam Fisher does the Time Warp again."
I honestly don't mind them putting in a new person to play Sam Fisher terribly much even though I think it would have been cool with a totally new agent.
Ofcourse this is totally irrelevant because this looks like Conviction 2 and Conviction completely left the Splinter Cell formula - and kinda sucked. So neither the original Sam Fisher or a new agent will save this.

Conviction was a fun game but it wasn't particularly Splinter Cell'y. Could have had an entirely different name and main character and wouldn't have made a difference.

Asbolutely and if it wasn't under the IP of Splinter Cell I would have been fine with it, I wouldn't have enjoyed it more but it'd be ok. The problem with it being a Splinter Cell game is that by completely changing up the original gameformula it made pretty sure not only Conviction but every game after it in the series will not be like any of the SC games before Conviction. Blacklist is proof of this.
This is not something just happening to Splinter Cell, and this is the major reason behind complaints about games that aren't necessarily bad but are too different to the prequals. Some notable examples; Fable 2, Fallout 3, Medal of Honor.
