• GPU overheating

So last night I was just using my pc and I begin to smell something nurning, like melted plastic or something. A minute later, my just shutdown. I realized the smell came from the pc. I waited a few minutes and turned the pc on, and I got a message saying that the overclocking had failed (I overclocked my e4500 from 2.21 to 3.66 over a month ago, everything worked perfectly) and I thought that my cpu was fucked. I loaded up speedfan, and my cpu was at a normal temp, but my gpu was on about 84 degrees. Today, I turned the pc on, and it was around 52 degrees, but the temperature was raising quickly. What the fuck happened? I haven't overclocked my gpu at all, and everything else is at a normal temp. I'm using a 9800gt with the latest drivers, and windows 7 64 bit.
Dust out fans. Turn up fan speeds on GPU. Off topic: what voltage do you run your e4500 at?
Mine (9800gt) runs at about 70c, but never that hot. You should look into a replacement VGA cooler. Actually, dependent on brand and where you got it, Warranty. What brand is it, where did you get it, and WHEN?

Use hardware monitor for temps. http://www.cpuid.com/hwmonitor.php
-snip-
I think I've figured out the problem, I opened the case and there was a cable in front one of the 'blades' of the gpu fan. I'll wait a few minutes and turn it on again [editline]01:53PM[/editline] FUCK YEAH! That worked  Now...if only I would remember how to get my processor up to 3.66 ghz :Dawkins102:
Go into the bios and look at voltages.
Go into the bios and look at voltages.
I set it to automatic
download CPU-Z And look at the voltage there. Make sure the system is under load.
1.168 while playing mass effect [editline]05:20PM[/editline] 3.74 ghz now
