Deleting, moving, or renaming a folder containing thousands of files makes Windows die.

Well, go into cardiac arrest at least. I'm trying to delete (or at least remove from my Desktop) a folder containing thousands of texture files in Windows 7 that I was keeping handy for a map project, but each time I attempt this Windows goes into a never-ending progress box and never actually does anything to the files or the folder. Does anyone know of a way to get Windows to delete this stuff? I've tried deleting the files in the command prompt, and rmdir won't work because there are spaces in the folder name and renaming it is just as bad as trying to move or delete it. Is there maybe an application that can skip over Window's red tape and manipulate a folder full of 1400-odd files?
Is it only when you try to delete everything at once?
Actually no, I've tried deleting the files one or two at a time, the same thing happens.
When in doubt, fsck it.
shift-delete it and wait 24 hours.
Delete it by CMD?
All right, I deleted it and waited overnight, in the morning it was still stuck on "discovering files". Trying to delete the files in the command prompt just results in the command executing but then the prompt not doing anything, like the regular deletion.
Give this a shot:

Get a permanent deletion program, like this
http://www.fileshredder.org/
That will delete them all, and for good too (you wont be able to recover them)
All right, FileShredder crashed when I tried to delete the folder or all the files inside, but I tried selecting random segments of files, turns out the whole problem is with files 1, 2, 3, 8, 1192, 1310, 1490, and 1491. All the others have been deleted, but trying to modify any of these or the folder results in crashing FileShredder or Windows Explorer.
Unlocker on the other hand I've used before, the only process using the files is Windows Explorer, which is what I'm trying to get to use them.

Sorry I should have been more clear, don't try unlocking the files with unlocker, but rather delete them. Unlocker allows you to delete files too.

I've never used it for that before, that actually did the trick. Thanks a lot.
