• 2 Radeon 4850 not working together

I just got an XFX Radeon HD 4850 1 GB and I originally had a Saphire Radeon HD 4850 512MB. Now I want to use them together. Common sense tells me they should, and even the ATI CrossFireX chart says I can. My computer is the only one that disagrees. :gonk: For some reason, the only card that works is the XFX even with CrossFire enabled. I even went into the BIOS only to find no hint of GPUs. So can anyone help? Any idea what's going on? Specs: Windows Vista Home Basic x32 AMD Phenom II X2 550 Processor 3.10 GHz Ram 4.00 GB XFX Radeon HD 4850 1 GB Saphire Radeon HD 4850 512MB [installed, not operational for some reason]
They aren't the same card, one is 1GB the other is 521MB, that's probably the problem, SLI and crossfire prefer the same manufacturer, but actually having the same card is a must.
The thing is that their both 4850. ATI really needs to tell me this stuff....
What is your motherboard? It might not support crossfire, or could have a hardware switch.
I'm not too sure what the exact board is but it's an AMD and crossfire is supported. Not too sure about the switch, though.
Did you install the crossfire bridge?
Install as in program? I've installed the hardware thingy. EDIT: blegh retard moment.

You sure other card has enough power?

You have to have two? Only the Saphire came with one, not the XFX.
Weird. You have to have two? Only the Saphire came with one, not the XFX.
You only have to have one, the other slot is for if you have more than two cards.
Are you sure you've also plugged in the PCI-e external power pin(s) in the second 4850?
yes, yes. The light is blinking, the fan is spinning, and the computer recognizes that there is a second card. It just refuses to use it.
yes, yes. The light is blinking, the fan is spinning, and the computer recognizes that there is a second card. Try cleaning (uninstalling) your drivers and reinstalling the driver. It may have to reinstall the drivers together.
Vista 32bit, I'm pretty sure that supports only some thing like 4GB (inc video dedicated memory) last time I looked at the windows website. Would that have anything to do with it?

Would that have anything to do with it?
Yep it would, thats probably the problem, I do believe it also includes hard drive cache as well, so if he has 4GB of RAM and 1.5GB video memory, thats quite a bit over 4GB. So the solution is to install Vista x64. If you has the original install cd, then simply select x64 in the setup options, though you'll have to do a full format of your hard drive.
Omygod JSharp. Anyway I don't have CCC on startup so I just opened it and enabled CrossFire :P At least I think so. It says the cards will work together but won't have great performance or somthing. Then a "1" flashes on screen. And I really don't want to format my hard drive. I might if I had an external HD but that isn't the case.
