• Review my very first build?

[del]Hello. I searched up a guide on how to build a PC and used this site http://www.build-gaming-computers.com/. So yeah I practically got a jist of what parts to get, and how they fit in to other parts. (Probably not the right words but you may or may not get what I mean) Anyway, just incase, my budget is ≤ to $1000, as looking at my cart it seems that I'm looking at a solid $715.88. I plan on playing Source games and GTA IV, and probably'll spend half my time with editing software like Sony Vegas. I don't really need any components like mouse, keyboard, monitor, and speakers so I'll be reusing those. I've got a Gateway FPD1960 that's a 19" TFT LCD flat panel, 1280x1024, that I'm completely fine with reusing. I'm purchasing Windows 7 but I'm not sure what edition I should get. And I'll probably be very into recording from my TV, although I've always had troubles deciding the whole thing in general. I guess that's it for now. Here's what I plan on buying for my build: http://img861.imageshack.us/img861/5863/buildo.png[ If you need it, here are the links to each of the parts: - Processor: Intel Core i5-2500K - RAM: Corsair CMX4GX3M1A1333C9 - Harddrive: WD5000AAKS Caviar Blue - Video Card: HIS H545H1GD1 Radeon HD 5450 - Motherboard: Intel BOXH61WWB3 - Case: NZXT H2-001-BK H2 Classic Silent Mid Tower - Power Supply: Ultra X4 500-Watt Modular - CD/DVD Burner: Asus DRW-24B1ST 24X[/del] No need for any further help, I'll be going with this build:
$1002
Use newegg, that site looks shoddy..
PSU is awful case is overpriced shit you won't be running high settings or res with a low end card like the 5450 (and that's very expensive for a low-end card) spinpoint F3 for the HDD H61 with a 2500k is pointless
$1002
Sounds great. Thanks for both of your guys' feedback; I'll go with your selection, Armotekma.
Alright the parts came this morning, and I just finished putting all the pieces together! And just to be sure before I start putting case back together and replace my old computer, possibly see if anything's wrong? Sorry for the pictures are hard to see: I couldn't find where to plug in the AC'97 cord (the black one that you might could see laying on the power supply) so I just left it. There was also an MSI M-connection plug that had "USB01+" and "USB01-" that I plugged in after taking this pictures, and I plugged it in the "USB1" slot on the motherboard, then plugged in the "USB" cable into that. I figured that's how it went considering they all matched, and because how wobbly the USB cable was without the M-connection plug and yeah.
You don't need to use the ac97 cord if you used the HD audio cord you will be good besides dat cable management you should be good IMO.
Haha yeah I got an HD audio cord. I wanted to be done as fast as possible to see the outcome :D And I was practically drooling once I got to the GTX 560. But thanks!
Where's the Hyper 212 at?
No cable management with a modular PSU and the HAF 912!?
EDIT: Sorry about that, my Windows Phone browser went slow.
No cable management with a modular PSU and the HAF 912!?
Fucking this. How do you fuck up cable management that bad with those things.
Ugh. I feel so stupid. I got so carried away with everything else that I forgot to finish the power supply directions. I'm going to do that now. I was working on this with someone else and kinda had to rush it a bit because he had to go work soon, and we kinda really didn't get some of it. But I'll give it another go.
THE RAM LOOK AT THE RAM You need to put the RAM into slots of the same color so you can use dual channel. As in, either both of them in black slots or both of them in blue slots. Also, as has been said before, where is the Hyper 212?
Yeah that was my friend's doing. I told him but we both shrugged it off later. And I wasn't really sure about the CPU cooler. The i5 came with a cooler and the person I was working with decided to take over and use that.
Why would you let them take over and put on a much more inferior heatsink on for no apparent reason? It just doesn't make any sense. You've put what, 1 grand into this thing? 1000 dollars and you're just fucking around with it? I mean, why spend that much money if you're going to install things wrong and not even use some of the stuff you buy? I just think it's builders like you that have problems with hardware and then go on newegg saying how this and that is DOA/a piece of shit when the fault probably lies in their doing. I don't understand why you'd pay all that money and not take extremely good care of your investment.
I get what you mean. It's just one of those things where you see but you can't stop. I disagree about the Newegg review thing though. All-in-all I'm gonna put it in the past now. Whenever I get frustrated it takes over, but it's summer, and I need to adjust myself. But anyway, I know I still have a lot to learn about these things, and this time I'll try to be more careful. I'm reading the rest of the power supply instructions, and I've realized it's not even that hard. I appreciate you telling me what you think; it helps me a lot.

That's ballistic? lol
Tone of the post, Maverick.
That's Maverick's standard emotion. [editline]9th July 2011[/editline] Also if the 212+ requires a backplate to mount, you might have to take everything out the case to put it on.
Weeellll, it seems like I'm done. :) Posting from my new build! I just wanted to say thanks to all of you who helped or could've continued to help! Unfortunately I'm using the on-screen keyboard , but it's okay. Anyway, someone can lock this thread now. Thanks all!

Haha, why not? Took some extras if you don't mind! The computer's front! Notice the keyboard plug.. :P A closer look. Posting on Facepunch with Windows 7. Chrome and Steam are open and I'm installing EFLC! - which I was planning to play on the PC for a very, long, time. My old comp.. Sigh, I'll miss it when I move the data on to this computer, but they're apparently upgrading it so it's a win/win! Closeup on the keyboard plug; emphasis on the processor's LED (I would assume). With flash? Why not! Box that came with all the stuff and Styrofoam peanuts. Pretty messy to clean all those up actually. Box that came with the Cooler Master itself, filled with said peanuts and an empty Jack-in-the-Box bag from last night to ease Styrofoam peanut pickup. :P Upon running the computer for the first time, I was amazed at how fast it was. I know it was a freshly installed computer and everything, but jeez does it surpass my old computer. I ran Portal 1 on some good settings and was amazed on how quick and smooth the whole game was. This is easily the best stress reliever I've ever gotten.
Game on it yet?
Somewhat. All my Steam games smoothfully and beautifully. GTAIV plays beautifully, Portal and TF2 play beautifully. All I need now is a USB keyboard to complete this experience :P
Haha, you've been playing all those games without a mouse and keyboard?
Lol I've got a mouse AND a keyboard, but the motherboard only has room for one :(
Lol I've got a mouse AND a keyboard, but the motherboard only has room for one :(
Get a new mouse (e.g. MX518), not a new keyboard. Assuming you currently have a PS/2 mouse and keyboard.
Yeah I got an MK combo right after I posted that. Onl $15 so pretty cool.
