That post is well-informed, and he's right about stupid mistakes being the reason for those accidents. Almost every accident is the result of a stupid mistake. But there are very few technologies around where a stupid mistake could potentially kill millions. He goes: "Yes, Chernobyl and Fukushima happened, but they just happened because people were being stupid." Yes, nuclear power plants are safe if they're well-designed, well-maintained and well-operated. But not if they're not. That the people responsible were just being stupid doesn't change the fact that these accidents did happen, and that we can expect people to keep making mistakes as long as there are people. When talking about something that could potentially threaten the health of all the world's population, I don't want to hear "it's safe if you know what you're doing." I'd rather hear "it's safe" full stop. Because there will always be people who do [I]not[/I] know what they're doing. And even if nuclear power plants were 100% foolproof - what about the waste?
