And apparently it's really loud? Right now I have nothing to put it in, and I'm wondering if I should return it while I have the chance. Is it really as bad as some of the videos make it to be?
Rich bastard.
[editline]18th October 2010[/editline]
Anyway what are your current specs? It probably isn't loud enough for you to notice while gaming, but possibly when you are typing an essay or something.

Yeah haha I know,
But I was thinking about an Antec 900 case, AMD Quad-core, if they make a difference.
I just don't want the thing be like VROOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMMMMMM all day long.
[editline]18th October 2010[/editline]
If it's like a light humming I can live.
What reseller is it? Fan noise obviously depends entirely on the fan used, and most resellers tend to choose different designs when they manufacture heatsinks for cards.
EVGA, no?
Thing is I'm not even getting the rest of my build until Christmas. Most of that was money I made along with my mom's, didn't really get anything else besides it.
I would return it and wait until you're getting the rest of your build. Might be better prices on hardware then.

If it goes down $25-50 dollars it'll be like "eh" and I'll get over it.
But no one plans on releasing anything new in that time do they?
Shit man I only get a gift card for sears every year, I envy you.
Yeah, I would return it if you're not using it until christmas anyway, and wait for that.
The HD6000's
Fuck me in the beard.
Not like I'd go out and buy that but if everything gets cheaper..
How much cheaper are we looking at?
[editline]18th October 2010[/editline]
And can anyone else confirm the small amount of noisiness?
so you don't have it in a case and it's loud? well of course it's going to be loud without a case
the 6870 which is slightly worse than a 5870 is going to be between 200 and 300 US dollars, so I think you should keep your 470.
Also you can just turn the fan down when you don't want to hear it
Also you can just turn the fan down when you don't want to hear it
Well yeah, I just heard some of the videos with their fans on 40% sounding like vacuums.

Or maybe my volume is really high.
I'm using headphones.
the 6870 which is slightly worse than a 5870
What?
Keep it and use it. I got a GTX480 and it's not loud (ok I also have a HAF932 which would probably cover the sound with it's own fans though).
68** = 57**
wtf?
The 68** series is basically the 57** series. The 69** series is going to be the new stuff to replace the 58** series, and the 6990 is going to replace the 5970.
wtf?
AMD is revising the naming scheme, the 69xx is the top notch cards what the 58xx were, the 68xx the mid-high range that the 57xx covered and the 67xx covering the low-mid gaming.
Ok, makes sense now.
If you're going to trade everything in for Xmas, send the card and make the best of an integrated deal, at worst case, you'll be getting the same card, again.
keep it, I own 3 and I don't hear shit with headphones and its not very bad at 70% load.
I'm pretty sure you can use software to control fan speed. So just set it to be low speed when temps are low, since that means you aren't gaming. Then set it to go higher as temps climb.
I wouldn't return it. What message does that send to your mom, she gets you a kickass card and you take it back?
I just set my fans to 70% when idling and I use EVGA precision to raise it to 100% when gaming, its not loud with my current case, and my case is pretty shitty.

rich? uh
[editline]18th October 2010[/editline]
anyway op look into EVGA Precision - you can custom set the fanspeed depending on temperature of the card.
Who keeps the fan on auto anyway? Losers, that's who.
Can we trade moms? I only got socks.
I have an EVGA 470, it gets loud at 65-70. But if you have headphones it isnt a problem
65-70% loud or fan level, I keep my fans at 75% all of the time and switch them to 100% when gaming.
SHould I just use the automatic setting I'm pretty anal about a cool case, I like to idle at 40 degrees or less and 90 at full load, but I heard fermi GPU's are hotter than previous architecture so Ive been okay idling at 65 - 70 degrees with the auto cooler but with 75% majority of time its significantly lower.
(Please note that this is a 3 way SLi system)
